So what made KDB one of the best midfielders the premier league has ever seen is completely worthless? Not impressive?
Is English your third or fourth language or do you just not understand that what he was saying is that assists as a statistic is largely meaningless due to the massively varied nature of what can be deemed an assist?

He’s not saying that someone like KDB playing a defence splitting pass to set up a goal is meaningless or not impressive.

Get it now?

It’s being under-reported but Ben Davies is yet another player who has quickly been re-injured after returning to action. He had a setback during his recovery from the first injury too.

The marriage of Ange and our medical team is a truly terrible one. We must be on course for the most injuries ever in a season.

Sorry but I don't agree. Poor squad construction? What has that to do with losing 50% of your squad?

Refusal to rotate? Who hasn't he rotated apart from Porro and Kulusevski?

Strange subs that seem to harm player fitness? You what?

Running favourites into the ground. I'm assuming you're talking about Porro and Kulusevski? What choice did he have with Porro? With Udogie injured he had to play Spence left, as Davies was either playing in VDV's spot or was injured himself. Kulusevski very similar, either having to play on the right as BJ was injured, or centrally because Madison was injured.

Rushing players back from injury? You might have a case with VDV, though I think there's an underlying issue there, but who else has he rushed back? If you're referring to Romero, you do know that his latest injury had nothing to do with his previous one yes? He recovered from the toe injury, his current one is his quadriceps. Totally unrelated and nothing to do with "rushing him back."

If you look at the nature of the injuries we've had, you almost have to say we've been incredibly unlucky. I can understand the accusations concerning hamstrings where our defenders are concerned, but not with our wingers who are expected to be sprinting regularly. Here's a list of the injuries suffered;

Solanke: Knee injury suffered by twisting it when shooting.
Dragusin: ACL went when his planted foot slipped.
Odobert: Hamstring after playing less than 2 full matches.
Vicario: Broken ankle after collision.
Romero: Thigh injury, following toe ligament damage.
Mikey Moore: Severe illness, no injury.
VDV: Hamstring.
Richarlison: Take your pick here, he's had numerous different ones.
Udogie: Hamstring
Werner: Hamstring
Johnson: Calf injury

I can't be bothered to put anymore up, but you can see that there's a variety of different injuries in there, the majority of which you can look at and feel we've been incredibly unlucky with, particularly with them all happening at pretty much the same time.

To flat out ignore this is just disingenuous.

Believe what you feel comfortable with Ionman. We're all entitled to our opinions on here.
I'm sure our views of it will be borne out by the success of things or not, in time.

Them clowns on LWOS coming out with absolute gems such as "some Spurs fans don't like Ange cause he's Australian" or "the team's struggled cause Ange hasn't been backed".

Who gives a toss he's an Ozzie, like seriously. And not backed? He's had 400 mil to spend.

Bunch of helmets.

He was backed thoroughly. We should be doing a lot better with this squad.

I don't find it to be a particularly strong argument- you would tend to expect that high volume assisters would be doing something to generate those assists, and, just as with goals, that the quality used to produce those moments would tend to even out with more trials. To call it the most useless stat in the world is strange to me- it's certainly not a perfect stat, but once out of the range of simply being fluke/run of luck type results, as Ange has alluded to with bounces off ones backside, it does start becoming a strong indicator of creativity.

In football, no single stat fully captures a player's contribution. Goals and assists miss the buildup play, while defensive actions depend on team shape and strategy.

Tactical variability further complicates things, as a player’s value can shift drastically depending on the manager’s system.

Then there's the intangibles like the players chemistry with his teammates.

Stats in football, a fluid, highly interdependent game are a much harder predictor of player value than in sports with more discrete, individual matchups.

Oh my god, it was a clear setup to what he was going to say about Dane's

I'm sure there is some element of truth to what he was saying but the hyperbole, in my opinion, was purposeful to land the comment at the end.

Ange Postecoglou reveals Tottenham player did not arrive in the ‘greatest physical condition’

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that following his loan spell at Championship side Oxford United, Dane Scarlett returned to Tottenham not in the best physical condition.

Dane Scarlett has spent the last few years away from Tottenham Hotspur, gaining experience on loan.

Ange Postecoglou implies Dane Scarlett needs to work on his fitness

Since rejoining Ange Postecoglou’s squad, Scarlett has continued to display his talent. He played a key role in Tottenham’s Europa League victory over IF Elfsborg, scoring and assisting in an impressive performance.

Against Ipswich Town, the young forward provided an assist, delivering a pinpoint header from his own half to set up Dejan Kulusevski, who finished beautifully.

Despite his contributions, Postecoglou has now admitted that Scarlett’s physical condition was not at its best upon his return.
Speaking to football.london, the Spurs boss said: “Yeah, look, he is working hard. Dane, like you said, has had a couple of difficult loans and that is part of the process for him.

“We were just talking about Djed, who had three difficult loans, so some of it is just perseverance, keeping your head down and waiting for your opportunity.

“He has done well for us. I said when he came back, he was not in the greatest physical condition and he is working hard on that. Hopefully, he gets more opportunities.”

Postecoglou also offered a tongue-in-cheek take on Scarlett’s assists, adding: “As an aside, I have got to say the assist is the most useless statistic in world football.

“Seriously, it could come off your backside, fall to somebody on the halfway line, and he scores, and it is an assist. So it does not impress me, but Dane’s assist at the weekend was a good one.”

Fair chance we could have a fully fit squad from next week onwards. Since getting his players back, the results have instantly improved so hopefully it continues to trend this way.

I'm amazed by how many people didn't see this coming but we are here now so lets move forward together. On the same point, Ange has no excuses now for not getting consistent results with this squad available. We should be going through in Europa while also moving up the prem table most weeks. Thats how it works. No agendas, no taking sides, we finally have a fair playing field! Ange has a team that can compete so lets see how he gets on! He'll be gone in May if he doesn't make it work from here.
Mate, we’ve lost lots of games with almost fully fit squads. Don’t lose sight of that.

Obviously I hope that we can finish the season strongly and can win the Europa, but we haven’t lost almost half our games for no reason.

If you can’t find ways to win with depleted squads or without certain players you have to adapt your system accordingly. He seems to have learned this recently so let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Reading that its pretty obvious Postecoglou was speaking about the context around an assist as being the relevant thing, to make the point that Scarlett's assist per se is not important, but given the context, Scarlett's assist was a good .

Yup and people will remove context to suit their own narrative that Ange is just some crazy nutjob.

He's spot on about the assist stats. Games like fantasy football have increased the relevance and importance of assists to an extent where they really have become such an overrated metric. Chance creation is a much better metric to judge a player off. The variance of assists is wild
