Ange is often contrarian out of spite (especially when asked a tough question) but with the assist stuff he's right. I remember Tom Carroll got an assist for passing the ball sideways to Bale when he scored that winner at West Ham.

Assists obviously have their place and are almost always important, but what about the run from the other player to allow the space for the assist? Quite often even more important. Like everything in this beautiful game, there’s nuance in the statistics.

I see- I make a comment strictly about the validity of the argument itself, and your response is annoyance that I express my opinion.

I think he's a poor manager tactically, but that is something else entirely.
It’s all feel-good entertainment for some folks. It doesn’t matter if he says anything sensical or not because it’s “Grandpa’s magic story time”. Any bit of critical reflection on the assist stat through the lens of statistics shows IT IS a good indicator of creativity that leads to goals- especially when it breaks from the range of random-chance trial results.
Does this by itself mean Ange is a bad person? No- it’s just one more instance where this man says something visibly incorrect. The very wisest people I know don’t have this problem, or if they do, they are self-aware and quickly correct themselves.
