I think the last few long-winded manager searches and the lingering criticism over the timing of Mourinho’s sacking are part of it.
He wants to show prospective managers that he has realistic ambitions and will give them a fair shake. He’s obviously taken it too far with Ange but I think he is aware that his reputation for sackings was putting people off.
He knows he's done so really even Mason couldn't finish off the season any worse than Ange will do .The whole squad's morale must be rock bottom at this point .
