And the one before Ramos' league cup win was George Graham winning the league cup in 1999 when we were not just shite but also incredibly boring, comceded more goal than we scored and both lost and drew more games than we won. And the one before that (1991 FA Cup) we only won 1 out of 15 league games after January. And the one before that we finished mid-table the year we won the UEFA cup in 1984.If anything this has proven to me that I would rather be awesome for most of the season than win a cup and be shite, same with the ramos season which is the only other trophy I’ve seen us win. I was very young at the time so maybe that was it but I remember winning the trophy well, doesn’t hold a candle to some of the Poch seasons for me though.
It comes from wankers like Carragher and Neville who peddle it at every opportunity to get the best players from the clubs outside of the cartel to join their clubs.Football isn't about winning trophies though, otherwise 99% of professional clubs fail every season, I don't even know where this notion of winning trophies or bust came from, it seems to be a very modern day take.
What was a better season for Tottenham 2007/8 or 2016/17?
Before Poch most people did not think half those players were that special half their development was due to his coaching team development. Kane had 22 goals at pro level when Poch joined. It still amazes me that with our team all those years , we still never even won a single thing.
Lloris
Walker/Trippier
Vertongehen
Alderweirald
Rose
Eriksen
Demble
Sissoko
Ali
Son
Kane
With those players at your disposal, it's pretty lame that we didn't win a single thing.
I really think if he'd have made an effort in either of the domestic cups or Europa, we could have won something
But something tells me that he was getting orders to get top four above everything else.
We haven’t won f all yet and we are likely to play Bilbao in Bilbao in the final if we get there. If I had the time or the desire I could probably find thousands of posts on here saying trophies are more important than anything else. But I don’t and I can’t be bothered.
“Football is about winning trophies not finishing Top 4” is the line.
So yeah based on that this is our most successful season this century.
And we will lose 20+ league games.
Funny old game football.

Go and talk to all the people making those posts.
Leave me out of it. I already said I don’t have the time!!
Bloody hell. Never seen us with anything like those sort of figures over half a season before.14 points from our last 18 league games , I’ll just leave that there .
Undoubtedly the team that finished 2nd to Chelsea was the best Spurs team I've seen but difference was Chelsea had depth and we didn't... but that starting eleven was better than any other team that season. Still won nothing and that will always be the stick to whack Poch with... I've nothing against Poch but I just wanted to make a point that he wasn't this all singing all dancing messiah that came from mid table club and won it all and that's why we should pick Iraola, Silva or Frank as our next manager. For every Poch who's had a modicum of success there is a Gerry Francis, Nuno, Hoddle that have been an absolute shit show. The odds on one if those three matching Poch's achievements are slim... and actually I don't want our next manager to match Poch cause that would mean winning fuck all. I want a proven winner in a proper league who can get us challenging for the title every season. That should be the bear minimum for a club with our resources... not twerking for managers who finish 8th - 14th every season. We were never mediocre under Pochettino other than in his first season. Now we celebrate 5th which is what Poch achieved first season!! Whilst getting to a final.
We were an extremely good team, one of the best outside the traditional elite in Europe. We claimed some huge scalps, got to a European cup final, had an incredible league season which we frankly only lost because Conte had a Chelsea side with no european distractions, numerous other impressive seasons...
Of course winning matters (a lot!) but you can be not mediocre and not win things. Under Poch we could compete with any side in the world over two legs, even a really good Juve side we were inches from beating in this type of scenario & we played them off the fucking park.
We were missing that little bit extra something to win things - but the team was very fucking good.
We had two proven winners in Mourinho and Conte and look how that turned out. The managers can only go so far under Levy. What we need is a manager who can bring out the best with what Levy gives them.Undoubtedly the team that finished 2nd to Chelsea was the best Spurs team I've seen but difference was Chelsea had depth and we didn't... but that starting eleven was better than any other team that season. 2 hours each way for me due to transport.I agree I am sick of travelling to WHL every few weeks just to watch the drivel we see every week and I live in Enfield. I cannot understand how anyone with more than an hours journey could have been bothered to go to our last home match against Forest. Going to watch Spurs at the moment is soul destroying and cost more than ever.
Spot on. Its not what we want but you have to deal with the reality of the situation. Proven winners that demand to win will fall out with Levy in a few months. We've seen it a few times now. It would be great to appoint Nagelsman, Inzaghi or Xabi Alonso and give them £200m net this summer but its a fantasy. They'd have to make do and mend like all the others, they'll have to deal with a squad thats short in at least 1 area and those type of managers wont put up with it. Its why under these owners it needs to be someone thats shown promise who will hopefully improve players, isnt set on 1 way of playing and can grow with the team. Who that is fuck knows. We had two proven winners in Mourinho and Conte and look how that turned out. The managers can only go so far under Levy. What we need is a manager who can bring out the best with what Levy gives them.
This is genuinely a good question.Football isn't about winning trophies though, otherwise 99% of professional clubs fail every season, I don't even know where this notion of winning trophies or bust came from, it seems to be a very modern day take.

How they became the players they are is a mixture of circumstances if which Poch was massively influential. Before Poch most people did not think half those players were that special half their development was due to his coaching team development. Kane had 22 goals at pro level when Poch joined.
Poch even turned Ricky Lambert into a player Liverpool wanted at Southampton. His coaching meant Liverpool signed 4 Southampton players. Morgan Schneiderlin signed for Utd. He may not have won anything but he could develop players.
