Just shows how random football is, in terms of winning trophies. Under Poch we had the best team in the league at one stage, but never won anything.
Ange is one of the worst managers in our history, it's been an absolute didgrace of a season, and we could end up winning our biggest trophy in decades.
Winning this comp changes nothing for me in how I look at Ange. He's an absolute fraud. It's been an incrediblely understrength Europe League this season and we've almost got there by default.
Our away game at Frankfurt was the stand out, but even then we relied on woeful finishing by Frankfurt, literally missing open goals.
The fact we played Bodo Glimt in the semi final says it all as to how weak the comp is.
It won't make it any less thrilling for us fans if we win it, it shouldn't do.
But it does matter in terms of analysing Ange's performance this season and how poor we've been.
On paper winning the trophy makes it a successful season in terms of trophies, but an appalling season otherwise. And we really are a cigarette paper between success and , if we lose next week, the worst season in probably modern Spurs history.
So winning one game next week doesn't change any of that. It finally gives us something to celebrate, but beneath that, there's an awful lot wrong at the club, and that needs to change immediately, with Ange fucking off, along with the entire backroom staff, and the club appointing a competent manager who can have us fighting for top 4 again.
One thing I will say though, is if we do beat United in the final, even with them being crap themselves, I wil give Ange credit for actually getting the team over the line in a final. That's something Poch couldn't do despite giving us so much more in terms of consistent results and performances. Which leads me back to my first sentence, football is so random. If Ange wins a trophy, he will despite being an abject pathetic excuse of a manager, actually won something at Spurs. It's so bizarre.
But then you only have to look at Ramos, and how he is remembered. If we win the final, Ange will be remembered with disdain, despite being in the record books.
P.S. I don't see us winning the final, I think we will shit the bed like we always do. If far better managers than Ange couldn't get us over the line, I just can't see it. I'll be amazed to see us turn up in a final and win.
