He probably thinks that he has Levy by the balls now but I wouldn't be so sure.

Levy can easily delegate this decision to Vinai and/or Paratici. They will be coming in as new voices that are willing to stamp their own mark on the club.
It was definately a 'your going to have sack me' comment. But yeah even its Levy he sacked the popular Jol, he sacked Rednkapp after finishing 4th, he sacked Poch 6 months after getting to a CL final.

I was 100% he would be gone even with the win but started to have my doubts given the last few days but i think this is a timely reminder and they cant take the risk keeping him

This team on paper is a top 8 team. We’ve bought a lot of youngsters for the future and they are central to our post poch - squeeze a lemon, kick a dead horse - out of his team that he himself needed refreshing. But we need champions league players if we are going to play in the champions league and giving a new manager a young squad on the up with CL money. We are a hot prospect. And we can do much better than ange

If people are rethinking now what will it be like next season after the first bad defeat or two which will likely be pretty early. Paratici and Vinai aren't going to have his back like Munn had. It would be a madness to continue. Great time for all concerned to shake hands and move on.
What a "proper " coach can do to improve a teams play has been shown by Glasner at Palace

The before and after are like night and day

We have some good player but the coaching ( or lack of it ) is abysmal

People will look down on him because he's managing Brentford.

Brentford who have comfortably finished above us with a fraction of the budget.
I was talking to my old man about him at half time, and put Eddie Howe up as a comparison. He worked a lot of miracles at Bournemouth, but couldn't maintain it as he had the best of his team sold from under him.

He then got the Newcastle gig and, after a bit of up and down, has got them both a cup and CL. Maybe by the skin of his teeth, but he's still building a squad to compete at the very highest level.

I can see that kind of managerial ability in Frank TBH. He may not have any honours to his name as yet, but every manager starts out at 0 until they get the opportunity.

Of course there will be reservations, but his actual abilities as a coach shouldn't really be up for questioning.

If we do part ways with AP, which I do think will be the upshot regardless, we could do a lot worse than Frank.

He absolutely has to go. I have been supportive of him. Liked how he answered questions about VAR, how he wanted to focus on plan A, how he talked about playing attacking football. But lately he's become just full of himself and full of excuses, and our performances have hit new record lows week by week. The football we are playing is abysmal. Not a single player delivers individually, and our collective play is horrendous. He absolutely has to go.

Mutual agreement is a partial admission of failure on the manager's part.

"You know, I acknowledge that I failed as a manager here. Therefore, as a way of showing my remorse about this whole situation, I'm willing to forego a portion of the compensation money that I'm actually entitled to receive."

Why would he make such an admission though? In his mind these 2 years were a thrilling success. A strong league campaign after taking over a tumultuous situation in his first season, followed by ending the 17 year trophy drought with a European trophy in his second. Of course things were hardly this rosy in reality, but these are the lines that he's thinking along I'm sure.

Coming to a mutual agreement would be a sign of humility on his part. Humble would be one of the last words I'd use to describe him as a person though. Either way, reaching by far the biggest height of his career will certainly not make him more humble moving forward.

What would be the point in holding it back? Most clubs make a change prior to the summer break. Well, except for us that is who left it really late to get Nuno in 2021.
It doesn’t stop the club sounding out potential suitors, but they may still want to milk the good feeling from the cup win for a bit longer.

Announcing the manager’s departure kind of puts a dampener on that.

Because he hasn't had a strong league campaign in either of his two seasons here. He's coasted off of 10 really good league games at the start of last season. We then proceeded to limp to the finish line. Averaging one league win per month is not good.

I just hope that today's result has reminded most people what an absolute cluster fuck this season has been. Yes you could say it was because of the celebrations taking their toll, but if you watched the game you'd see that the same old set up and tactics were still there, which any half competent team will always overcome.

Yes, we've won a trophy. That's fantastic, it really is but it doesn't excuse the dam right embarrassing season this club has actually had.

I've been Ange out since around October last year and winning the Europa League hasn't changed my mind one bit. Don't get me wrong, i'm grateful to him and i'm sure he's put all his efforts into it, but if we're being honest with the bread and butter of league, he's been absolutely garbage.

If there was any chance that I think that things would change with him next season, I'd say let him carry on but all the evidence is there to see, that we will massively struggle in the league again, especially being combined with the CL campaign and I have genuine concerns that we'd be relegated. That's how little faith I have in him.

Not only that, I actually really dislike the bloke, but that's personality thing rather than ability so I can't use that against him about a footballing decision.

The fan base will be split no doubt, and you'll gonna have the few trolls trolling but i'll nail my colours to the mast right now. Sack him first thing tomorrow morning and move on ASAP. The club will be better off for it.

Glasner is a good shout. Spurs are a project team. Taking a really young team totally rebuilt from the poch one, finally, with our financial clout (that we never use) and the CL money and allure, this is the perfect project for an up and coming manager. Just not ange. We can’t just be buying excellent young prospects either.

On Postecoglou, and it's not Ange, unless you know the bloke,in the same way it wasn't Boris ir this warped modern day bo!!ocks of calling people we don't know by their first name. The debate was always going to be somewhat obvious, if we won the Europa.

Lose, and it was didn't deliver on this second-season trophy success, and also presided over a shocking PL campaign. Easy decision for Levy to make.

Having won the Europa, many of those who were sure of what they wanted to see are now on the fence, or because of 100 minutes, thinking differently. I think that's partly/mostly emotion, short-term memory loss and taking some massive leaps of faith.

Indeed some pundits are now saying a bit of pragmatism on Postecoglou's part can see him take his philosophy (whatever that may actually be), onto better things, and that he has earned the right. One being Micah Richards, who provides entertainment and unstinted humour, but is someone who is hardly what can be considered a football connoisseur. My view or opinion for what it is worth.

One thing Postecoglou can't be accused of is not talking straight or knowing what to say. I certainly don't buy into "it doesn't affect me" that he often comes out with. His actions, especially when this season's PL record has been scrutinised makes that assertion incoherent.

Wednesday was great. The relief and sense of 'at fcuking last' was palpable, and will run for weeks and months but it did not match the emotion of the Ajax game 6 years ago, where it was excitement that was off the roller coaster scale. That is not to diminish Wednesday in the slightest as opposed to compare it to how I felt after the Ajax match.

I remain very clear. Postecoglou should be dismissed. The Europa had possibly 6 to 8 teams who could win it, with us being one. Realistically you can only face 4, once you get to the knockout stages. We faced 2 of those who were going to be winners, and beat both. Bodo were not one of the teams expected to win the thing. The same applies to the CL. Realistically 6 to 8 teams can win it, nearly every season. One of them won't be us next time round by the way.

This season has been blighted by injuries, like none before, but we have also been so bad in the PL. We have lost to terrible teams, we have barely laid a finger on the top teams, except for a couple of freaky results. We have literally become whipping boys, knowing before many games that we would be beaten.
I don't see discernible patterns of play or coherence, and nothing looks like the product of good coaching If it did, if we had finished in the top 8, then it's a very different story. 17th for crying out loud, and even if you allow for Postecoglou's carefully constructed justification, that's surely not acceptable.

On Wednesday, I don't believe there was a grand plan, in taking a goal lead, and defending it. What we saw was survial and some degree of hope. I think I was one of the first during the week who said if we went one-up, that towards the end we might see Danso come on as part of a back 3. Not rocket science.

What Postecoglou has done is make it easier for the next manager, who no longer has to overcome the hurdle of winning something, who can come in and seek to build something of substance. To make the most of the talent. To demonstrate an ability to combine the demands of Europe with something a damn sight more reflective of a squad's capability than 17th in the PL, with the only teams below you having just been promoted. Is that where this club should be, regardless of Cup triumph? What happens next season if/when 3 of the spoken back 5 aren't available, as is likely for various reasons?

People need to consider carefully what Postecoglou said in victory. What does he do next season? Again concentrate on Europe and the CL, where we will have next to no chance and supposedly sacrifice the PL again? Why will it be so different? He is simply using the catastrophe of the PL, and covering it up with the Europa success, which was glorious but does it really justify the weeks and months of dirge that preceded it?

Does it make it alright, and critically what is there to make anyone truly believe? We weren't just abject for pretty much all of this season but since VIlla away last time round.

United and Ten Hag provide very recent insight into failing to make the right decision at the right time. Strip out the personalities. We were far worse in the league this year than United were last year, and look where they have fallen to since.

Mine would be a massive thank you for delivering us our first trophy in 17 years, and getting the monkey off our back, and goodbye. The risk in keeping Postecoglou is far greater than the presumed benefits. I refuse to do sentimental, exemplified by a quite pathetic and embarrassing Postecoglou apology thread.

To references of costs in paying compensation, that's nonsensical. Up to 5 million pounds, probably spread over however long, and with all the money generated from being in the CL etc, or agreeing a slightly lower cost for a player. Easily absorbed and covered.

Posters are funny, fickle and fearful. I can sense that because Postecoglou has given us long awaited success that quite a number are now seeing things that aren't there. This was not prioritising the Euroopa per se , but accepting we were failing badly in the PL. We kept trying. There was no Plan B, as different to what is best now.

It's run its course. Postecoglou made good on a bold statement. Let's move on.. Identify someone objectively better. At least that's what I would do.
Very good post.

I think that's more or less the way the board will analyse the situation in the cold light of day. Once the fan euphoria has worn off, I think the majority will reflect and agree that, if/when they part ways, it is the correct decision.

I fully expect that he'll go away on holiday, then come back to find that the decision has been made and he's out the door.
