I say this every year but "I have renewed my season ticket, but if things don't improve, this is the last time"

I was hoping, when I decided to leave the renewal to the last minute, that Ange would already be gone and we'd have a promising manager with a future ahead of him.
But we have a year of at least 4 games in the Champions League coming up.
I'm hoping by this time next year, we're not facing £1,300 for a season in the Championship.

I reckon this place self combusts if a decision isn’t communicated until the beginning of July! 😂

:ange-facepalm2:
The longer the delay, the more likely it is Levy's sounding out replacements but not able to find one. If he had one or if he were all in on Ange, we'd know.

Whether he's balking at the fee required in the release clause again or he simply can't find someone who wants the job we would never know, but Ange floating in limbo does nothing for the club.

If Ange were retained it gives the impression, maybe correct, that he's only kept the job because no one better wanted it. Or if he's replaced after a long delay, the chances increase that we get a panic hire like we did with Nuno.

None of this is to our betterment, it's baffling that Levy hasn't made a decision yesterday in my opinion.

Let's not forget what Ange has had to deal with.

1. No Kane, for the first time at Spurs in 10 years
2. Whole back 5 out injured for several weeks, and CBs for months, twice.
3. Two transfer windows of only Solanke and Danso with any real experience - the rest were kids that he had to play because of injuries.
4. A cup final without Kulu, Maddison and Bergval.
5. Playing Timo Werner, because of injuries
6. Not inheriting a squad anywhere near as good as the one Poch had.
7. Son past his best and offering little for most of the season.

And he still won us our first European trophy since 1984 and our first trophy of any note in 17 years - many tried and failed. He's also wiped out all opportunities for those tired 'Spurs trophy cabinet' jokes, and many others.

The one blot on his copybook was finishing 17th. All things being considered, it's a small price to pay (means f'all now) for CL next season, and bringing in better players etc.

Maybe with a good transfer window, less injuries and more strength in depth, Ange just might pull off more than another 4-0 at the Etihad.

So, if Ange has to go, the guy coming in better be some amazing manager, because if he's not, it will just be another reset, before

For some it certainly it is!

Keeping Ange will be based on pure emotion rather than the objective evidence of the last 18 months. I think it’s difficult to argue otherwise.

I’ll certainly get behind him if he stays (even if I think it’s the wrong decision).
I'm afraid it will be Ramos revisited

Is your wife available for next season?

So, as we managed to win the UEFA Europa Cup and in doing so qualify for next seasons CL, we managed to get rid of the Spursy tag

What will reinstate the Spursy tag?

Ange staying or Ange going?
Going would be a start...

We all know that will happen. The overwhelming likelihood is that it will be another lost year.
With the reinforcements I expect us to acquire, the likely makeup of our squad next season, and Anges tactical abilities, I can see us improving to maybe 8th or 9th at best, and that would mean prioritizing the league and probably not making it out of the CL group stages AND having VdV and Romero available for the vast majority of league matches.

I'm telling you, the real story here is that Ange is the only person telling Levy that the job can be done with the squad investment he's willing to dedicate. He wants to use the players already here with a few reinforcements, his potential replacements want an expensive overhaul that Levy will never pay for.

And that's "bad", sure. Levy sucks.

But we've seen where we end up hoping a manager can force Levy to open his wallet. There's no fun through that door either.

But he's never pursued a manager as passionately as he did Ramos, and with the full benefit of hindsight, there just really wasn't anything there.
He did (weirdly enough) have his own bonkers "Paulinho/Barcelona" moment by managing to get the Real Madrid job (albeit not for long) after he left us. The 2008 League Cup is still the last trophy he won as a manager, despite managing four clubs after us.

What I would say is that without Levy hiring him, we'd have been potless for 26 years rather than 17

I am sure Ange would be saying such things. "If you stay with me I can do the job and you won't have to spend more" A siren call more tailored to Levy's interests there could not be. Can only hope Levy doesn't fall for it.

As a fan the only hope is that we sack him to appoint some other up-and-comer and strike gold this time. Ange certainly is not that. The chances are against any appointee, but we may as well daw the next card rather than stand on the poor hand we've got.

He’s bought himself discussion time with that cup win.

Unfortunately for him the CL football makes us more interesting to elite level managers too.
Quite frankly, I'd rather have the manager who got us into the CL rather than a manager who only became interested when we got into the CL.

If we weren't good enough for them before we got into the CL, we're not good enough for them now.

They can fuck off.
