We can. I just shared my opinion and the reasoning for it. I get that it is a tiring discussion though.

I don't dislike Ange at all, certainly not compared to some of the people on this board that have severe trauma from him to the point where Ange would make a nothing comment and they would spin it into the worst thing anyone has ever said. I found that super annoying.

But last season was such a disappointment to me, and I didn't enjoy Ange's term as manager outside of his first 10 league matches.

I have enjoyed the start to this season more than I enjoyed last season. I'd rather have consistently good results with some promise than months of trauma followed by one shining moment.
Each to their own. I found the form around the CL run to be horrible, but the joy of the matches at City and Ajax made up for it and also made up for not showing for the final. This last season, same really, as the league form was a nightmare, but the joy at the end made that mean less.

Just don’t really understand why everything has to be a competition. Shit things are shit and great things are great. But I suppose society has placed us here to the extent we even have blind ranking as a thing. Life is very fucking strange these days.

Well it's more the context of gee-ing up the fans "let them believe" and all that "I win a cup in my 2nd season", taking a 1-0 lead, making us believe we're getting to a domestic cup final, then immediately showing us all how hopeless he was at this level. There was no plan, no game management, no adjustment - just an arrogant "we'll just bloody attack them mate", as if it wasn't Liverpool, and we didn't have Spence/Davies/Danso/Grey as our defenders

I think this would have been a bone of contention had we and him not actually won a trophy, we did so that Liverpool match is academic.

not an expert. Have seen enough to know that South Americans are very good at football and hard to beat over two legs as history tells us. So, better to play a tournament where it is easier to qualify... maybe that is why Australia do qualify now playing in the Asian group whereas previously after 1974 until 2006 they did not. WC results also tell the story. Every nation wants to qualify man, there's sponsorship, tv all sorts of money to be made. But carry on, it's about getting practice and your man really is the bestest.
What the real result is that he is gone and his fans will now follow Forest. Everyone's a winner
Qualifying through Asia is harder than Oceania.
But you’re the expert 🤣

I'm looking this up as I type, but I was interested to know the league position when we won cups in prior years. I'll start AFTER the 61 double.

62 FA Cup - 3rd
63 Cup Winners Cup - 2nd
67 FA Cup - 3rd
71 League Cup - 3rd
72 Uefa Cup - 6th
73 League Cup - 8th
81 FA Cup - 10th
82 FA Cup - 4th
84 Uefa Cup - 8th
91 FA Cup - 10th
99 League Cup - 11th
08 League Cup - 11th
25 Europa League - 17th

4 top 3 finishes with a cup.
6 if you inclue top 6.
Lowest prior to last season was 11th on 46 points (08)

I may be in the minority, but I can't be alone in feeling that winning a very 2nd rate cup in a season where we lost 22 games in the league and resorted to parking the bus to get over the line wasn't as great as some make it out to be.
Is it nice to get the monkey off our back, yes?
Was it one of the greatest nights I've had as a Spurs fan?
No. I felt much, much more when we beat the PL Champions Chelsea in the league cup final after smashing Arse 5-1 and even that was a "meh" PL season.

There was no magic last season. We played a series of teams in the Europa League that would struggle/not stand a chance in the PL.
The team we beat in the final are huge. In name only now.

I have been talking about in terms of achievements for the club, not necessarily for what it feels like to experience as a fan.

Getting that monkey off our back should do more for us than losing a CL final. or having a great result against a rival that in the long run, didnt actually push us on.

it felt so good to beat Arse to 4th in Conte's first half season but it did fuck all for us in the long run.

I think this would have been a bone of contention had we and him not actually won a trophy, we did so that Liverpool match is academic.

It was said in the context of "this is the point where I changed my mind on him"

I think it would be mildly obsurd for anyone to base it on the outcome of the Europa League (although many did) because it was hardly a convincing outcome. Great result, but the margin between him being seen as - quite frankly - the single worst PL manager we've had over a full season, in the single world PL season we've had, versus being lauded as any kind of legend is graphene thin.

So my disdain for the guy started when I feel like he exposed his level of ability in that single game, far more than any other, considering how much the tie meant to the fans after his cheerleading.

If he knows nothing I still trust his judgement over your blind patriotic support of the worse coach I've genuinely seen at Spurs. Ange Postecoglou makes Tim Sherwood seem like Rinus Michael's.
It’s not blind patriotism, I just call a spade a spade. I don’t suffer fools gladly but will always accept fact based truths. I acknowledge and accept Ange’s faults but there is a lot of bullshit and anti Ange narrative that seems to try and change history. And Who is a classic example.

I’m sure many Forest fans would agree with you !

well it appears that it was harder to qualify for them by winning Oceania and then having to play a weaker side over two legs from another group ... since the 1974 WC losing wc qualifiers to Israel, Scotland, New Zealand, Argentina, Uruguay... but you'd know that:confused:

Honestly though, do you think we had any hope at all of making that 1-0 lead stick over 90 minutes at Anfield with that as our backline had we parked the bus?

We just got ourselves into an absurd situation with squad fitness over that period. It is what it is.

I judge Ange much more on our turgid, predictable and confidence-less attacking performance in the league once we had players back. That spirit of his early bounce didn't reemerge.

It was over then, and I was absolutely certain in that moment there was no way we could make it through Frankfurt then two more rounds.

....and then it got complicated again

Fucking hell

There are more posts today in the Ange thread than there are in the Thomas Frank thread, the upcoming Match Thread or any other thread.

What the fuck is up with some of you guys, it’s just plain weird and creepy.

If you behaved like this usually, some of you would be on government registers.

Half the posts in the Ange thread are now people complaining about there being too many posts in the Ange thread.

We're minding our own business in the Other Football forum, leave us alone mate

Probably because this is a discussion board and Ange causes discussion, whereas people are pretty happy with Frank right now.

Although I am a hypocrite because I was critiquing others for being so active in the Tel thread when he is playing such a limited part. I just didn't like the non stop criticism of a young player who is trying.

Every few posts there’s another complaint about people discussing this. Fucking weirdo convention.

I can’t stand ABBA, so don’t have them on my Spotify playlists. Easy as fuck.

Don’t like our ex manager, or discussing him, don’t come on the thread and bump it to the top of new posts by being a bitch.

It's weird people talking about football its characters and protagonist seems to offend some . Then they post to moan about the posts. I think truth is certain characters want to pretend their utter ignorance about the game as evidenced by their irrational support of Postecoglou never happen. Because damn it's stark, well its going to get alot worse boys, and hiding behind Whittle sea Zebras achievementa is going to get funnier by the game at Forest this season.
