So, giving it full hindsight, I was right to support him until the cup win and wrong to want him sacked at the end because of the league form. That position was not something we’d ever want to see, but considering the mess his replacement is making of things, with a stronger squad, I can only assume the first season 5th wasn’t the anomaly, the 17th place was.
Saying that, I understood and supported the decision at the time.
If we’d kept him, we’d be still in with a very good chance of top four this season. And in a strong position to maybe replace him with the next level up in the summer.
As for those claiming his time at Celtic was easy as everyone wins with Celtic, how many managers are they now on this season? Not as easy as some think. And Forest? Six training sessions and eight matches for a team in plummeting form, that has continued that downward spiral, hardly missing a beat, is hardly a stick to beat him with.
I don’t think he’d ever have been the long term answer for us, but I do think his sacking was a mistake, again in hindsight. But I’m not convinced getting him back helps.
