Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If Conte comes, and I still have my doubts despite all the reports, it makes this summer even more frustrating and pathetic from Levy.

1. We could have avoided the embarrassment of the 70+ day manager search and instead injected a lot of positivity and excitement in the club and the fanbase
2. We could have potentially avoided the Kane disaster as Conte may have been enough to keep him somewhat happy to be back
3. We almost certainly would have got different players that fits Conte's system and not now been playing catch up with the squad throwing away this season in the process

Gil and Royal are not fits for Conte's system. Tomiyasu would work as a LCB/RCB in his system. No way is he fine going with only Kane/Son as strikers.

It is just so stupid if we wasted 5 months where we could have had Conte in here having a positive impact on the club. We have seen that the 4th spot is open right now with the mess United are in and with Conte in when we initially talked to him we could easily be taking advantage of that.

I will be excited if it gets over the line and do think that Conte would only take the job if he has assurances about certain things, but I still have my doubts that Levy will live up to those promises and will be worried that Conte will leave in anger having not had his demands met by Levy.

I think Conte would only be coming here if he had been promised that he would be backed. With Covid & stadium situation looking more certain than the summer, perhaps we do have more funds for the transfer window.

I think Conte is a good signing even if he only stays til 2023. Firstly because he's a world class manager and I actually think our squad is suited to a 3-5-2.
Secondly because I think he has the pull to bring in top players. Vlahovic & Kessie both have contracts running out, so will have many choices. Conte gives us a chance of bringing in both. Let's say Potter took over in 2024, what would he prefer, a squad with Vlahovic and Kessie, or relying on Scarlett and Dele?

There hasn’t been a manager yet that had forced Levy to step outside his spending model, I don’t see why Conte will be any different. And to a degree, I don’t want him to be, as we don’t spend money particularly well and I don't believe in "big spending" when what you should be doing is "smart spending" when you are a sustainably run club, which is what all bar a couple of clubs are.

I’d much rather have gone for a head coach who is far more reliant on coaching than buying(although I accept Conte can "coach"). And instead upgraded Paratici and the recruitment and scouting apparatus.

The likeliest case scenario is Conte fucks off in 18 months after much acrimony, having “failed “ because “he wasn’t backed” and inherited a bunch of lazy losers, trying to install his ethos but ending up a with a deluxe brand of Moyes-esque football because he doesn’t get “his players”.

I would much rather we actually took a longer term view, decided on a top to bottom identity as a club that is achievable and fans can buy into, and recruit coaches and players accordingly. Not keep lurching from one big named totem to another, pretending we can compete with oligarchs and oil states, thinking putting Gordon Ramsey in charge of our diner will fool people into thinking we are a Michelin starred restaurant, when there is actually nothing wrong with great diner food when it's done well.

I'm both excited and nervous about Conte. He is without doubt one of the top 3 managers in club football.

He will come in and demand respect, more training and bring far better knowledge. Players like Kane, Son, Romero, Lloris will be happy. Players like Winks, Dele are done.

It's how it could pan out between Levy and Conte that worries me. Theres no way he's coming without being promised funds in January, so I think Patrici will be the buffer between them.
If it is conte then at least levy will hear some home truths about our playing squad.

The likes of dele and winks are not good enough for the championship and kane needs to either be sold or told to drop the spolit brat regime and knuckle down.

Here's hoping the likes of tanguy and lo celso get a kick up the arse as well.

Fed up with players at this club thinking they are bigger than the name they represent and throwing managers under the bus

Has to be. We haven't got a leg to stand on, while he could wait out until PSG, United or Madrid job. I hope his contract has assurances he will be in control and not just another "head coach" who has to work with Levys shit squad.
Does it have to be?

What happens if it doesn't work out on a £15m+ per year 4 year deal if it all goes tits up like the last managers? 🤔

Mystifying why the club might want shorter term contracts if acceptable...

People making assumptions about Conte based on Chelsea...look at Juventus and Milan. I honestly don't know how he will setup the squad or who will be in it, but he has consistently adopted his approach to best suit the players he has. I really have no idea what his approach will be.

Knowing how Levy works I think we have something maybe not lined up, but in serious stage of negotiations - he wouldn't sack Nuno and change him with Mason and no plan. Also, we definitely contacted Conte. I'm actually optimistic about it.

Can anyone find a bookie offering odds on us NOT getting Conte?
I want a few quid on that to ease the pain.
Betfair - you can lay at about 1.6 at the moment (so £6 profit on a £10 bet if it goes your way). It's been as low as about 1.4 at times this morning, and as high as about 1.7.

If history is anything to judge by... I made a few quid laying Conte at about 1.4 back in early summer... not because I didn't think we'd get him, but because it seemed to good to be true, and the odds were so low that I stood to lose very little if he did sign, so wanted some 'compensation' when it all went tits up... (exactly as you suggest above actually...).

If and that's IF it happens. He must have been promised a big bucket of Money to buy new players. Which really surprises me with ENIC.

Do we really think the hostile atmosphere on Saturday would have bothered them that much to have made them re-think ?

Conte made Pogba look like the best player in the world. He's never look as good since his time under Conte.

Excited to see what he can do with the squad.
