Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We've spent over £30m net not including loans already last window which we have to pay in the Summer or whatever, also factoring in the cost of sacking NES, hiring Conte, the fucked up financial situation and the fact he's only going to get 3 months to have a look at them makes me sceptical about signings in January.

Also the fact that we've heard this stuff multiple times before. Think this season they're hoping for some spectacular turd polishing and a big new manager bounce...a cup run if they're lucky.

Maybe a forward on loan in January or Parrott back perhaps, maybe Kessie if he's running out of contract, but unsure tbh. Wouldn't get my hopes up.
Totally.

There are two independent hurdles for signing players at Spurs, first Levy’s general unwillingness to spend which is real if somewhat overrated. The second is Levy’s refusal to engage in a transaction he doesn’t see as a value, which is badly underrated.

No chance we’re paying 70-80M for Vlahovic, even if those funds are theoretically “available”.

Which means we aren’t getting him.

That’s a fairer argument, but obviously that’s not the only change he can make.

In a game where we totally gave up, for that anodyne moment to be the flashpoint was curious.

Probably two-fold.....

What I said previously + I think Lucas is a lot more valued amongst the match-goers than he is on the Internet too....

Anyway, water under the bridge now. People will get mad about Conte’s football, but he won’t care.

As long as the aggression and results improve I think he'll get a LOT of wiggle-room.

Conte has watched a single training session. You expect the DoF to announce in the press, "he thinks we're shit, we're selling Winks, Dier, Sanchez, and Moura on January 1 and spending £100M"

We have 2 months of football we have to play with this squad as it is today. Why the fuck would he come in and publicly degrade them on day 1, FFS?

Some of you just set yourself up for angst constantly.

Pounds, Euros or Dollars?

......Vlahovic's contract is ticking down. Final year come the summer. Will they wanna risk him running it down to zero?

There's a deal to be done in there somewhere, so if he's a top target (and also has the potential high ceiling that Levy will like); why not?

(Makes more sense to me than Martinez did.......)

I mean whatever, Lucas for Bergwijn was a totally obvious, positive change at that moment.

One can disagree, but the immediate crowd freakout was weird.
Well clearly lots of the fans disagree with you, hence the 'freakout'. It wasn't weird at all, you're just in the minority being glad that Lucas came off, many of the rest of us saw him as the one player likely to do something to get us back in the game, and that's what much of the crowd saw too. It's not 'weird' just because a lot of people have a different opinion to you. ;)

We’ll see. But part of the calculus is that everybody in Europe relishes and knows how to negotiate with Daniel Levy now. Just bluff bigger and bigger and he’ll go away. If he actually wants the player he’ll be back in a future window with a higher offer.

Vlahovic is a monster asset, Fiorentina knows they can sell him for huge money in the summer. They’ll just fuck with us in January for the laugh.

Also we're assuming that other clubs won't be interested - there's no point us saying in Jan "we can get him for just £30m as otherwise he'll leave for free in the summer" if some other big club is prepared to enter a bidding war - if that happens he could well end up costing his 'normal' value (as opposed to his 'last year of contract value').

EDIT: Oops - just realised his contract is up the following summer - I'm sure someone on here said the other day that it was next summer. :/ Anyway the point stands - we probably won't get him cheap anyway, but if any other club is interested then we definitely won't get him cheap.

He’s not wrong completely - Nuno was given dog shit to eat in midfield and CB
Yeah i agree, its going to be interesting to see what big Tony Conte does with the hand that he has been dealt. This squad has nowhere near the same quality as the squads he has inherited in the past BUT he has been known to work his magic and transform teams. Hopefully he can replicate that with us 👍🏼

COYS!

Correct, every club is going to be after him, huge talent

Yep - we were doing nothing with the ball, much more useful to have thrown another attacking player on, rather than just switching. We weren’t gonna score in the way we were playing, so needed a change.

I think many don’t overestimate the players , the key will be the club shifting them and replacing with upgrades. Obviously not everyone, but probably 4-6 first team players depending on your perspective and a hell of a lot of the back ups.
I think will take up to 3 windows to fully solve , so hope Conte is here after any rebuild
I think this is mostly true.
For too long, I actually valued many of our individual players more than I should have. I watch GLC with Argentina, for example, and think he should replicate that play with us. I watch the occasional brilliance from Tanguy and think he can be amazing for us. Reguillon as well. And on and on and on.

Yet, what are any of these guys really providing Spurs?
Still trying to determine whether they just aren't as good as I thought -OR- that the sum of our parts <<< our team's talent together on the field. Hell, maybe both.

To me, the only guy on our squad who should be untouchable at this point is Sonny. He is locked down, consistently gives effort, and is Spurs in his heart. Doesn't mean he can't (or shouldn't) be better.

But I can't think of another player I'd turn down a decent offer for, including Kane at this point.
Problem arises - what other clubs are willing to offer us for our parts. To really turn over this roster, we are going to "lose money" on some transactions. We have to admit we made some unwise purchases in the past and be willing to lose that sunk cost.

Almost above all, I am hoping that is what Conte does for us - gives us a truly refreshed squad. If he gets some guys playing better, that is great. Better tactices, absolutely. Playing with heart and purpose, would be refreshing. But I'm tired of playing the same gutshot straight draw that never comes in. Let's toss 'em all in and try again with a new hand.

I thought that ""I'm not your dad" comment was awful and showed a complete lack of awareness. Dele wasn't asking him to be his dad. It might be the case that someone who hasn't had a great dad about might benefit from a little compassion from someone who presumably did and a little advice here and there where appropriate but even if Jose had decided not to go anywhere near that there was no need to say it and shame Dele for no good purpose.

By all accounts Dele's real dad wasn't really there for him, from what I recall reading, and that wasn't Dele's fault and he's got on with life the best he can and done alright despite not having the best support. The comment from Jose was an unneccesary verbal blow to hit the kid with. Clueless from Jose.

The truth is, as a manager, you have 30 odd kids and men who have different backgrounds and need different things each to get the best out of them. It's up to the managers to adjust to each individual. Really no different from any managerial job in any industry in that regard. Some you may not be able to help and get the best out of even if you try and with experience you might get rid ofthose players, but there is no need to be a cunt about it like Jose was.
The spiteful prick likely knew exactly what the story is re: Dele’s Dad and was trying to goad or test him. Just a horrible human being and I’m glad his fucking dog is dead and his wife left him

Just did a google translate on Conte. It doesn't mean what I thought. It means 'Count'.
