All of your comparisons are using Jose in his prime vs. Conte now. Of course Jose in his prime and Conte now are comparable and maybe even Jose was better.
Jose now though is certainly nowhere close to Conte's level. Jose is washed and Conte is coming off an extremely successful season.

There is absolutely no way this squad can achieve top 4. The only conceivable way that it is achievable is by bringing in some quality players. Look at Chelsea over the two legs that's champions league standard this squad is a million miles from that.

That Chav squad just WON the CL & is considered a title challeneger. We're battling with Arse, WH & Utd. for top 4; not Chelsea.
No point in being in champions league to get pumped at the group stage and dumped out. I'm not asking to be as good but atleast compete. We was at no point in this whole tie anywhere near the same stratosphere as them. United west ham Woolwich and United all have better squads. We have a couple of better individuals. Also all you've mentioned were competing with have easily dispatched us so far this season.

Conte isn't walking into Real, PSG or City where he's expected to produce right now.
Conte is no fool. He had plenty of time to think and calculate who he's exactly getting into bed with.
Maybe things are worse than he expected, but there has to be some vision that Levy, Paratici, and Conte are aligned with.
He knows the January transfer window is difficult. Rarely are there impact players on the move. Maybe that's why Traore hasn't gone through yet. Is he really going to make that big of an impact? Save funds for summer spending.
Maybe Conte's plan is to get us through this season and it's in the summer where he can tear it down and build it up more to his liking. There's a shit ton of work to do.
I'm not saying shit doesn't suck now. The immediate future looks grim. But as long as Conte is still here, i'll have some hope.

If he had more than an 18 month contract I'd agree. The fact is his contract only runs until the end of next season so realistically what he needs to do he needs to start this window. Big ask for him to do it all this summer. And remember there is a world Cup sandwiched in next season.
Having seen it to varying degrees from Mourinho, Nuno and now Conte I do think that managers are actually surprised at how bad the squad is when they arrive.
From the outside it's clear we have issues but until they see Matt Doherty up close they don't realise the extent.

If true that he's basically been told you'll maybe get Adama this January if you're lucky, I can see why he would be downbeat.
I can also see a scenario where they have promised him the world in the summer to have a real go next season but as a winner he is simply depressed about having to see out the season with the current crop.

Being in the champions league was supposed to help us sign good players before. We went 18 months without a signing and still didn't sign a single world class player in 4 years.

We all know the arguments for obtaining CL (players want it, fans love big European nights and there's a tone of dosh at stake too)..... Or do you genuinely think it's a waste of time unless we are among the favourites to win it?
You've moved the goalposts.... You started off saying "There is absolutely no way this squad can achieve top 4" and offered up the strength of the Chav squad as the reason why.
....Now you wanna flip that to discuss the merits of the teams I mentioned. Fair enough, but that's a new, far more contentious debate. The only one with the far superior squad is United, but evidently there's still lots of issues there or they'd be challenging for the title such was the expectation at the start of the season.
Can we get top 4; yes..... We've already sacked a manager for bad results and dispite this have since gone on a strong run in the league which has left us in the mix and with games in hand. Will we get top 4; that remains to be seen; it's been another freaky season with many more bumps in the road ahead.

I want champions league football. I want a team that's able to compete in it not just be there for the money(that only ever benefits the owners) and can play some good football. I've watched us play united we we're awful. Woolwich we were awful. West ham played Chelsea and not only beat them but deserved to beat them. I've seen signs in all the sides you have mentioned that they could achieve a top 4 spot or that they are better than us. Name me what you see in this squad that has performed this way for 2 and a half seasons now that makes you believe we can beat any of those teams to a top 4 spot without signings.
At this point I'm assuming that he is here for the remainder of his contract. With such a big job to do I question why only an 18 month deal has been agreed because with a world Cup squeezed in next season I think it should of been a minimum of 3 years.
