Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We must be the most negative fan base in the PL. I do find it quite pathetic when you browse social media and see a lot of the views.

As someone that changed jobs in lockdown, lost my mother to cancer, thought I was about to lose my wife a year later, struggled a bit with work but came out ok, I feel for Conte.
To have had the crap he's had in the last 6-8 months and have a bunch of tossers baying for his head is awful.
If he wants out, he wants out. That should be allowed to happen.
If he wants to get his head together and back fighting next season, and if we're going to give him the tools, I'm all for that too.

We can't be in another Nono situation.

Good read. But I do still think that it comes down a lot to the coaching.

De Zerbi is playing this style of football with Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster in the backline. Neither are exactly known for their passing.

And all three of Dier, Romero and Davies are competent passers. They did it well last season.

My take is that something has changed in regards to the coaching compared to last season. Because an entire team doesn't suddenly forget how to play a certain way over a summer.

The tighter schedule also plays a part. But again, then it is up to the coaches to find a solution.

Dier is NOT a competent passer. He has 8 years of bad passes playing his team mates into trouble over in his repertoire.
The other 2 aren't as glaringly bad, but they're not brilliant either.

Conte’s system has always required top draw ball playing CB’s. If we still had prime Verts and Toby we would play so much better.
If Conte's system requries top draw ball playing CBs. Then how are Brighton pulling off almost the same system with Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster?

Being comfortable with the ball is important. But good coaches make their players better in those aspects or to cover the weakness.

Feels like spurs has bottled the rebuild when they decide Joe Rodon should be enough signing to maintain this position

It was really the start of downfall

This has nothing to do with Conte.... Stop spamming.

Careful, a statto will come and tell you Dier has more accurate/succesful passes soon.
Of course, the stats tell about 5% of the story and account for very little when it comes to implementing tactics

Nope. I thought he would be a bad signing because we are likely to move to a back 4 next season.

Maybe we won’t in which case GREAT planning.

But I think there’s a good chance we will. And then Porro is not a 45m player.

We could have spent the money on a centreback or creative midfielder who can play in any formation.
Should have done that anyway. What are we gonna get from him as a £45M player? Is it gonna be that much more than Doh or Soence? We should have just got a decent CB anyone half decent tbh. That would be better than the shite we have at present.

Both Dunk and Webster played under and through the press with Potter as well. So either it’s the fault of the coaches Jose & Conte for not coaching Dier and Davies to be better at that or Dier and Davies are just not capable of it to the level required.

I said it further up in this thread. In my opinion it is mainly a matter of coaching.

Dier and Davies played well out of the back last season under Conte. And have done it under Jose and Poch as well. Can they both be upgraded on? 100%. But the collective downturn that our team has taken this season screams coaching issue to me.

The players probably like Conte the person and Conte the manager. But they don't seem to believe in his system at all anymore. And that's going to lead to a downturn in performances.

Rewatched some of the Leicester game because I missed it (yes, also into S&M) and it's not just the passers. Hoj isn't able to receive passes on the half turn, Son is useless at receiving back-to-goal and teams just get away with coming through the back of Kulu. Kane gets kicked all afternoon if you play short into him and he was actually late arriving for several passes that could have been good.

We really really need another competent receiver with back to goal when Kane doesn't fancy getting kicked all afternoon. It could be Kulu but prem refs have clearly decided he hasn't earnt his "respect" yet because players are allowed to just go through him. It has to be Richy for Son because he's a 9 that has some ability to receive the ball and bring others in. Also has enough smarts to make a huge meal out of any contact.
