He should never have been sacked because since him we've had Jose, Mason, Nuno & now Conte. None of these were a better long-term fit for us at all, so getting rid of him was pointless. All we got out of it was a very brief bounce.

Doesn't mean he wouldn't have continued to struggle or that we didn't need to make adjustments or that he'd be winning every match now ... but I'd prefer us to have been committed to him over what we've done since.

Or rather, it's really hard for me to escape the conclusion that it's really an untenable situation for a football coach to work and live in a different country from his family.

Like it or not, after a major surgery his doctor was always going to prescribe plenty of bed rest at home.

Poch was miserable in Paris as well when his family stayed in London.

It's probably hard enough to live away from your family in the same country. Jose hasn't exactly been shy about how miserable he was during his United tenure when he lived in a hotel and his wife was in London.

I suspect there is a level of mental health surrounding this not just the gall bladder removal; the fitness coach and Vialli in a short space of time plus living away from family and being in a pressure cooker environment.
