Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Thought Gray played well on Wednesday, there were a couple of occasions he was got the better of but for an 18 year old he seems very good.

Think he could be a great player in the future.

Just not got the pace/athleticism to provide the necessary fwd dynamism or recovery runs......... Cracking ball-player though.

Further to this comment from a week or so ago......

Thought he grew into the game well in the 2nd half v City. It's not so much his defensive ability even, but the average nippy winger is gonna toast him.... Especially if his starting point is outside of our 3rd of the pitch.

I'd like to see him in midfield but we simply have too many ahead of him in there at the moment.

I don't really see a window opening there for him for another couple of years when Biss and/or Bentancur move on.

He shouldn’t be a legitimate backup FB option for a club aspiring to compete at the top but that’s the position we’re in and he’s been placed in.

I think he will look much, much better in midfield when that chance comes.

I think he was a very strange buy at that price for Spurs. Smacks of just oportunism. Even if Bentancur moved on, we need a far more established player in, a Fabian Ruiz say.

Gray is clearly a great prospect and will almost certainly end up as a #6. I do not think he is quick enough to play as a FB against top tier WFs in the EPL though.
Good call, given City (Nunez is a high level player and his acceleration burned Gray).

If possible Spence should be playing cover any time it’s against high pace wing forwards.

Kid's attitude can't be faulted. Seems like a hardworking, dedicated, down-to-earth lad, willing to learn, never gives up. Love to see it in an 18yo.

But he ain't a FB, doesn't have the pace, doesn't have the know how. Still young enough to develop obviously, but man I wanna see him at the 6 someday soon.

That's who we are, mate

I mean, that's who he is.

He played right back for the majority of last season, including in Leeds' biggest game of the season.

This isn't some sort of out of the blue idea we've conjured up. He's a right back. Has played right back for his previous club. Has played right back for his country. And has played right back for us.

Whether he's good enough long term to play there is a different argument. I think most people realise he'll likely move further up the pitch up into midfield but people go on like we're just shoving him into a position blind, which is laughable yet not really surprising.

I know all that, pal...but that's fair, you're right to point it out as some seem to forget it, yes.

But being played FB don't make you one. Also, playing RB in the Champo, even for Leeds, and doing it well...that's great, but the PL is a whole other level.

I am a big fan of the kid, mainly cause of his attitude. Also think he has a good football brain and a nice pair of feet. Maybe that'll help him develop into a quality RB who can handle the PL week in week out. But he sure gonna have to work on that pace, muscle mass and awareness.

Keep reading the loan stories - we’d be mad to do that, you can guarantee as soon as we do that Bentancur gets banned and Biss gets injured, suddenly handing Archie a better chance of playing CM.

The Europa is a great chance otherwise to give him some minutes in there - that Elfsborg at home game looking ideal

Ultimately, at that age he needs minutes to develop.

I have zero issues him getting those minutes in a position he's played before. Space in the middle of of the park is limited. Even Bergvall can't always get minutes in that position when rotating. So if we can get Gray playing almost 90 minutes every week like he is doing, brilliant.

I'd be shocked if right back is his future position. If it is, it's because hes not good enough to play in the middle of the field. I was a little worried from what I saw of him ther in pre season tbh, lacked awareness, was lazy getting back and wasn't particularly press resistant. Things that can all be taught or drilled into him. But it's also best for that to happen at full back than in the middle of the field whilst he's still learning and developing.

I'd like to see an opportunity where Ange feels he can play a midfield 3 of Gray Bergvall and Deki. Legs and flair! On a couple of occasions when the first 2 have been on the pitch together they look like they have a good understanding. The future is bright. The future is Tottenham!
