Player Archie Gray

Ultimately, at that age he needs minutes to develop.

I have zero issues him getting those minutes in a position he's played before. Space in the middle of of the park is limited. Even Bergvall can't always get minutes in that position when rotating. So if we can get Gray playing almost 90 minutes every week like he is doing, brilliant.

I'd be shocked if right back is his future position. If it is, it's because hes not good enough to play in the middle of the field. I was a little worried from what I saw of him ther in pre season tbh, lacked awareness, was lazy getting back and wasn't particularly press resistant. Things that can all be taught or drilled into him. But it's also best for that to happen at full back than in the middle of the field whilst he's still learning and developing.
Yeah them kids need the minutes, that's for sure.

Personally, I wish we'd let Leeds have him on loan for another year. He'd have started every game for them and probably played at the 6 quite often.

I'd rather Bergvall was on loan too than getting garbage mins here. A year (or two) in the Bundesliga felt right.

Instead we could/should've brought in an experienced FB and another 5-10 year pro to play 6/8.

If Bergvall and Gray do not go out on loan they will both count as home grown (club trained) when they are 21. That is a big factor for the club to consider in terms of their development / potential loans. Sarr by comparison will always now count as non-home grown as we loaned him out when he was 18. Not saying it was not the right decision for his development, but does underline the consideration for squad management.

I'd like to see an opportunity where Ange feels he can play a midfield 3 of Gray Bergvall and Deki. Legs and flair! On a couple of occasions when the first 2 have been on the pitch together they look like they have a good understanding. The future is bright. The future is Tottenham!
If we end up with a dead rubber at the end of the EL group stage I am sure we will see that midfield.

"A player's period on loan to a club from another National Association will not count towards the calculation of his Home Grown status unless his registration is held in suspension by the League and the FA and he continues to be entitled to be employed in the UK."

It is on the latter part why the likes of Saliba was allowed to be registered as HG because as an EU national, he has a right to work in the UK. Sarr, born and raised in Senegal before moving to France three-and-a-half years ago in September 2020, falls outside of that remit.

Sarr missed out by like a few days to be eligible. Which is super frustrating.

Ah yeah good point.

Still, for a manager who always wins in his 2nd season and for a club so uber eager to challenge for titles, we shouldn't be playing an 18yo kid from the champo at RB, where he's clearly not comfortable (yet). Same with Bergvall at backup CM when the kid's just moved from a league where the level is probably Champo/League One.

I totally get the HG thing, but had to be a way to get both right.

Got no doubts about Gray longterm. You can see his quality on the ball. Possibly may have been best to loan him and Bergvall, there was way too much expectation of an instant impact, largely because of our terrible summer window.

I think minutes anywhere this season is helpful and if we have any dead rubber games in the Europa or the league come April/May then put him in as a 6. Bissouma and Bentancur have 1 year left on their contracts come summer and given our wage trimming you can see what may happen so opportunities will be there from next season.

Do feel a bit sorry for the lad because he's getting his opportunity's playing as a fullback .

A fullback is definitely not his forte but you can see cameos in the games he plays which shows he is a very good technical footballer .

Feel sure he will be a major asset in the near future , good signing.

He's shit at full back. Continuing playing him there is fucking stupidity.
He played better in an unfamiliar LB role than Porro did in his normal RB role.

He’s not a FB, to be perfectly clear, but we have fuck all options in those positions, especially without Spence available.

FB has to be priority one in the windows coming up. Not saying it needs to be where most money goes toward but it needs to be the first buy.
