Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I thought he did ok tonight defensively. He was targeted 2-on-1 all game and did a good job of holding his man up until help arrived.

In possession he didn't look as assured as he has in other games, but then he didn't have Maddison on the left side of MF to work with.
He has obv been told not to pass backwards or to the GK. I admire that he tries not to, but sometimes he needs to just play the simple pass.

It's a tough one. Having Forster, Davies and Sarr as his nearest options is a fair step down from Vicario, van de Ven and Maddison.

I kept waiting for him to pull out one of his trick plays but he was super conservative tonight.

I don't understand why we aren't playing him in midfield.

Because we need to rotate our LB.

Players, especially younger ones often get played in positions they don't consider to be their best - eg. Kulusevki has always said he's best played in the centre but has had at lease one full season playing at RW. Just as Gray has only played a few professional games at CM - 90% of his time at Leeds he played RB

Gray will get his chances as a DM/CM, even if its next season. But the experience of playing LB and RB will help him playing there..

the overlap for werner around 80 mins he puts a lovely ball in with his weak foot for solanke. unreal technique that.

his problem is hes so good technically that managers just think he can play anywhere then lol. the kid more than deserves a chance to start a game in his actual position. hes a midfielder not a fullback.

Ive seen nothing to suggest he’s a midfielder, not quick enough on the turn or on his feet IMO but lest see when he gets a chance

From what I’ve seen, more chance of developing as a cb

hell end up a CB at the back end of his career i think, too good of a footballer to play there while he has gas in his legs.

hes not a FB thats for sure. doesnt deal well with standing up to wingers one v one. would be nice to see him play in midfield with the first team around him when he does get the chance and not all the fringe.

I think he’s doing ok but fook me I don’t think we’ve ever played someone so out of position. It’s almost like when Kane played keeper, except we’re actually doing this on purpose!

It's not an age thing. I think if we actually put him further up the pitch he can have a more positive impact on the side now. Look at him on the ball and the fact he cannot 1v1 defend at full back and looks completely lost without the ball there. I'd bet my fucking life that the moment you play him in a more advanced less exposed position you will see a completely different player. Ange is getting this so wrong imo and it's detrimental to the side defensively.
