I wonder if Spurs or Atalanta knew this would take place before we signed him.

I'm used to Gio using as a training camp for summer tourneys but didn't know Romero saw it similar. Did any other prem clubs allow their players to go? Did we?

Song about a cunt of an ex-player?

Song sprung up around 2008/2009(?)

Adebayor signed for us in August 2011.

It was, is, and always will be a racist song sung by racists. Now fuck off.
If it’s racist and offensive, why repost it ffs? I certainly had no intention of doing so, things have changed from 2009/11

Argentina have confirmed they intend to keep their Premier League players for the entire international break — despite the quartet having to quarantine for 10 days on return.

Premier League attempted to keep hold of their players who were going to be playing in red list countries due to concerns over quarantine. The current UK government rules state that anyone travelling into the country from a red list nation has to quarantine for 10 days at a government-approved hotel.

There are no exemptions to this rule, and Argentina is a red-list country.

As a result, Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia, and Tottenham's Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso will have to spend 10 days isolating when they return to England after the international break. Argentine broadcaster TyC reported on Wednesday that the four are considering travelling to Croatia, where they would be able to train together, in order to avoid hotel quarantine in the UK.

The Athletic has now been told that the plan is for the foursome to stay for all three games, including the clash against Bolivia.

Argentina play their last game on September 10 at 12.30am UK time, ruling those Spurs players out of games against Crystal Palace and Chelsea and the Villa pair out of clashes with Chelsea and Everton.

This had been hinted at by Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni on Wednesday evening. He said: “We gave the list for the three games and there are no doubts about that. The players are here to play the three games."

Is this a big problem for Aston Villa?

Definitely. Villa broke away from the Premier League-wide agreement and said they would release their Argentinian duo for the first two games.

A statement read: “With the permission of the club in accordance with FIFA’s international match call-up rules, Martinez and Buendia have agreed to make themselves available for Argentina’s first two World Cup qualifying matches against Venezuela and Brazil, but will not take part in the third international match against Bolivia.”

It meant they would miss Villa's game against Chelsea on September 11 but then return to action for the match at Everton on September 19.

Argentina have now gone against Villa's public statement.

Martinez and Buendia are key members of Dean Smith's side and their absence for two games will be a blow.

What about Tottenham?

It's a slight blow for Spurs from a footballing perspective. Romero is yet to feature in the Premier League this season while Lo Celso has not started a league game.

They would be good options in reserve, though.

But Spurs never made their stance over which games the players could play public in the same way Villa did.

When is the next travel review?

Reviews of the countries on the green list of UK’s traffic light travel restrictions take place every three weeks, with the latest announcement coming on 26 August.

This review came on a Thursday (which had previously been the most common day for the updates), although the previous two announcements had both been made on Wednesdays.

Following this pattern means that the next travel view should come at 5.00pm on Thursday 16 September, although it’s very possible that it will come a day earlier.

Unlike other major developments in the Covid response, the travel updates tend not to be accompanied by a Government press conference – changes are instead tweeted by the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.

To be honest it is ridiculous this 💩 show of a government have not made an exception for professional sports stars. The fact is this will stop any sport star going away to play tournaments in red list countries. The fact is it would be easy to manage international duty for footballers going to red list countries the exact same way deal with amber list countries.

It's not out of their hands, they can do what the Brazilian players over here are doing and not go.

FIFA should show a bit of common sense and move the fixtures to safer (in Covid terms) countries.

The sooner they do away with qualifiers for international tournaments, the better. The major nations should qualify by default and the rest can try and qualify to play with the big 12 Nations or whatever number you want to pull out of your arse.
But then they don’t make any money

Lo Celso is no loss - nothing player

Romero - would he have been starting by then in the PL? Possibly - so that one will hurt us
