That goal sums up Brennan Johnson at Spurs, doesn’t it? How each person sees it is likely determined by what they think of him.
Regardless, he was our leading goal scorer last year, ahead of both our £50m strikers, which is sad considering the total is only 11 league / 18 all comps … but we oughtn’t curse his name at every turn as some are wont to do. We’d have been in a very bad position without those goals.
And if you believe Ange’s yarn about prioritizing Europa because we were safe in the league, could we have done that without him?

He gets a lot of stick for his perceived level of effort on some occasions but he was switched on there and we’d not have a trophy without it.

Let's stop this bollox about the goal.. it was OFFICIALLY accredited to him so... No further debate needed.. or wanted... Johnson has pace and has a super smooth calmness when it comes crucial moments in front to goal... BUT technically he's piss poor.. his passing is woeful and his crossing not much better.. as far as I can tell from his recent appearances from the bench, he's dropped way down the pecking order...he's got no chance of playing on the RHS.. and on the left,ATM tell and odebert are Infront of him and actually better technically,will frank keep him?.. the juries out

I don’t know how having scored 16 goals last season he’s managed to find himself behind Tel and Odobert who have done next to fuck all for this club.
He must be just as shit in training as he is in matches for them to get preferred.
Goal contributions aside, his wingplay is tragic. For every goal he scores, he has fifty filthy brain farts.
But I don't blame him at all, he's a limited player and he's likely doing his best. Not everyone can be a Premier League standard winger and he doesn't deserve hate at all, he just needs to be moved on for his and our benefit.
Best case scenario is he gets a move in Jan to somewhere he'll play week in, week out and we bring in Savinho to sort our LW issue out.

Outside of Bale, Son and Dele he is the highest scoring non centre forward player Spurs have ever had.
Sure, he's not a flashy winger doing step overs and putting crosses into the box, but he is good at ghosting defenders and finding space. He also had very good stats for his defensive contribution.
Do you think Odobert/Tel/Simmons/Kudus will score >15 goals this season?

Agree and he’s lazy. He worked really hard in the EL final and tbh it really frustrated me as it showed what he is capable of. Agree on how poor a footballer he is but work harder than others, and score goals and you can still be a good player - but he doesn’t. Aaron Lennon had poor technique but he was a brilliant team player due to his energy and tracking

Pretty sure most, if not all, managers hate lazy players. FWIW, I don’t think BJ is lazy, just a relatively limited player that needs confidence. He’s good at one thing - scoring - and expecting him to do anything else is a bit strange. He’s not going to go flying into tackles, defend his own goal with towering headers at oppo corner kicks or bang in a 30 yard thunderbastard.
He’s good at scoring, shite at everything else, so he plays and we all accept that others need to step up to fill in his gaps, or he doesn’t and we need to accept that someone else needs to step up to make up for the goals. And finding a “winger” that will do that isn’t the easiest job in the world.
We don’t know why BJ isn’t playing from the start in the last couple of matches. Could be he’s not fit enough, could be Frank rotating, could’ve been caught shagging the lunch lady over a cafeteria table. Fuck knows. Most likely Frank hasn’t been impressed by what he’s seen and maybe that’ll be the making of the player. Hopefully if or when he comes back into the team he stops hiding from responsibility and starts on a scoring run again.
To be clear - as a supporter of the player and someone who appreciates what he can bring to the team - he doesn’t deserve to play at present. He’ll need to really shine in training and during his minutes to be a mainstay again. I hope he does, because I can’t see us getting his goals anywhere else in the squad.
