I agree
All the Johnson haters (like me) have got what we asked for so there can be no complaints.
The guy will be used against lesser opposition and as a late sub.
The only concern would be injury to Kudus and a prolonged stint of starts for BJ.
Apparently Kulu is back in a couple of months so BJ will be further away from the team. Definitely need to cash in next summer before his stock dips.
What constructive criticism do you expect to see.How many are putting up constructive criticism against Brennan here??
I mostly see pure disgust against him, and from the same people, and every game.
Thats nonsense. Im not a fan of Brennan Johnson myself. He is way to limited and often way too passive. But he has some very good qualities and is definetely a player we should be happy to have in the squad. What constructive criticism do you expect to see.
There's not really much to say. He's a good finisher but a poor winger.
If he's to stay here he needs to be converted into a centre forward or a second striker. There's absolutely no point in him playing on the wing because his wingplay is atrocious. He's scared of contact, can't beat his man, isn't skilful and can't cross.
People are frustrated because he cost the best part of £50m yet looks like a League 1 player. The stick he gets is, in part, fuelled by the people who post stupid shit like "where are BJ's doubters?" after he scores a last minute goal against fucking Doncaster.
He has one good quality and that’s finishing. It takes so much more to be a good team player. Seriously ,I don’t understand why it’s acceptable. If Mickey only had pace and couldn’t tackle, couldn’t pass and coujd t read the game would he be kept in the team just for that? You need more than one attribute that only comes out every now and again. If that’s acceptable then we deserve to be mid table crap. Some can accept it but I’m not.Thats nonsense. A fairer comparison would be if Mickey made a goal saving clearance off the line once every two matches, but the rest of the time was nigh on invisible, not doing anything, but causing very little harm, would he keep his place? Probably still no, even I’ll agree to that, but it’s a better comparison. He has one good quality and that’s finishing. It takes so much more to be a good team player. So many on here go on about the style that Tottenham have always played with and what people associate with a Tottenham winger. Most of us grew up and lived seeing pure ability at this club that got us excited.
There is also the possibility of having relative "good" players in the squad. Brennan Johnson can finish. In our team he is by far the best 1v1 against the keeper. But he has also showed a killer finish from the side of the box when running against defenders. He is quick. His overall crosses are maybe not good, but he surely can cross when gets behind the defenders. He has one good quality and that’s finishing. It takes so much more to be a good team player. How many times in a season do we get in that position to go 1v1 like last night? I do think he’s a good finisher but it’s not enough for me in any way. He rarely gets in behind defenders for a supposedly quick winger. Hes the slowest quick player I’ve ever seen. There is also the possibility of having relative "good" players in the squad. As i said. Im not a huge fan. But Brennan Johnson is the least of our problems.
Actually, I think Kudus will cause the same frustration as Brennan Johnson. But for the opposite reasons.
No I’m on about times where he is slow getting back into onside position. He does that a fair bit, a little lazy.Very rarely his fault, mate..... he is actually one of the best players we have at timing his runs to perfection and more often than not he is offside because others have not released at the optimum time.
Not sure why youre trying to take away from him the things he does well.. its pretty weird .
He won us a big game last season. If other players put him into goal scoring positions more often he'd score more goals. Most of his runs aren't rewarded but he is making them. He definitely isn't a Doku type winger that can beat 4 players and have you jumping out of your chair. Imo he should play as a 2nd striker, he really is a good finisher. He's frustrating to watch at times but could win us a game.
I’d suggest there’s only one extreme view on here.I don't think this needs to split the fanbase. Both extreme takes are wrong and the truth lies in the middle. You don't need to take sides. Its not a case of Brennan being useless to us and its also not a case that Brennan is perfect and deserves to start.
Brennan scores a lot of goals and scored our most important goal in nearly 40 years last season. That is just fact. His numbers are really good. Yes, 90% of them are tap ins but he gets in them positions that "better" wingers like Kudus and Odobert don't!
Brennan's overall performances have been very underwhelming. He loses nearly all his duals and never seems to come out of any 1v1 battle on top. He's just not a touchline winger and he needs to be accommodated with an overlapping fullback or a striker who can drop deeper to give him space to run inside. His perfect conditions are him playing as a right winger with Spence playing right back and Solanke as the striker. Playing on the left with Spence behind him and Richarlison as his striker just does not work. Brennan does not work as a touchline winger. He doesn't have the skillset for it.
So where does that leave us with Brennan? A very good squad player who offers something uniquely different to our other wide players like Kudus, Simons, Odobert and Kulusevski. But he should not be used as a like for like replacement. He cannot to what Kudus can do on the right and we shouldn't ask him to even try it. When Brennan is on the pitch then we need to find a way to get him coming into the box more. Either play him as a second striker, or else give him his perfect conditions as a wide player (Udogie overlapping on the left or Spence overlapping on the right). I also don't think he can play in the same team as richarlison. He needs solanke.
Could work. Him and Solanke have quite a nice combination of attributes. As long as he’s a bench option then I think Johnson is an asset to the squad. It’s nothing like Tel where lots of us are trying to work out how on Earth we signed himIts being muted in various media outlets that Frank might try BJ through the middle in a 2?
If this is the case, I've been championing this for months.
