But why pick him then? You see him every day on the training ground, surely you can fathom his physical state from that?

Good question which has also occurred to me but maybe he begged Jose for a chance to make an impact and Jose thought he could rest GLC with Leipzig in mind
Didnt work out that way but shit happens

Thing here is that I suspect poch did not start with 5 CBS a rookie 19 yr old DM and set us up to be so negative and get totally outplayed in the first half because of the managers team selection and tactics. By signalling out ndombele he has changed the narrative away from all that and no wins in 5 games to one player which every man and his dog is now talking about. And did we need to play the 2 midfielders as DMs when we have 5 CBS? Surely he could changed tactics during the first half. We had no pace in the first half so I think Lucas made as much of a diff as Gio because he ran at them and stretched them. Do people not see what is going on? He needs to pull out a result on Tuesday now but I’m sure the negativity and pre match excuses will start at his presser for the game. Also I hope he has a master plan for all those waiting for son and Kane to return as his made so much of it that he better get it right, improve the style of play and be more attacking . As he has often said and so have his apologist that he has no other option than play the way we are as we have no strikers. Obviously forgetting we had the cavalry avaiable against Chelsea at home and manure away and both performances were so passive and damp Sqibs! No doubt they’ll be some other excuse or person to blame if we still play the same and results are not great.

Look I am not saying that Ndombele is faultless, he can improve his attitude and work rate but it’s just pathetic how the fans jump on his back at the smallest chance they’ve got but defend other limited players because “they tried”.

It's not pathetic at all.

Effort vs no effort.... What's so hard to understand?

It's more baffling that you think Ndombele deserves special dispensation because of unused ability.

Sorry to harp on about this, but this NDombele situation, is physiology based IMO.

There is no way he is purposefully ambling around. He is protecting his body.

He should be pulled from the squad and assessed to the nth degree. As I've said a few times, I'm sure its waddling gait, which means he is probably suffering hip pain or the like, get him assessed. My instinct says he is embarrassed about having the condition and isn't confessing he feels it (or knows he has something stopping him being able to do more than slow jogs after 10-15minutes playing).

It explains how he has these unique turns and changes of direction, the distinctive walk/waddle run, the appearance of a belly which I suspect is Gait driven more than excessive weight.

He needs a very specialised training regime, to strengthen the supporting muscles, which are weakened. Then another go next season.

Ledley had a condition which meant he could hardly train (crudely the same, if you look at it from the situation causing a fluid build on a joint crucial to playing), if that's what NDombele needs, pull him from any intensity training and get him a base/core fitness plan first, then work out from there.

Think this is more than lack of effort or will. It's my belief we have bought a special needs player for £60M but never checked into his physiology enough to discover it, so are now attacking him (crudely) for being undiagnosed special (football) needs...

Just my inane thoughts.

Yes limited players that try get more credit then good ones that don't. He cost a lot of money and whilst the fee is not his fault. If he 'tried' he'd be one our best players even when son and kane are back.

Smashed them 1-1 lads. Thing are looking up
:kanegoal:
As amusing as this is....
THIS is precisely the sort of game we not only would've lost last season... it's a game we DID lose last season!!

Who else saw their winner coming with that last minute flurry and the corner???

So in ONE small respect, it's progress!!

You may be right, but how did we not know this before we spent £60m on him?

Maybe the issue has become pronounced under the harder training regiment at Spurs Vs Lyon, thus turning the condition from very mild to a higher level, which makes him now struggle to train freely, impacting his ability to come into match days with any semblance of fitness and freedom of movement.

If he trained hard to impress Poch, and this skeletal misalignment (anomaly) meant his bones ground against themselves, or such, creating some heightened local inflammation, this could plausibly create an exacerbation of this condition.

He 100% looked lighter on his feet in the Lyon footage I watched.

Speculative, but I'm pretty sure there's something like this going on with him.

It's not the type of thing that a standard physical would pick up on, as it would only show after intensive exercise, if I'm correct.

Osteitis pubis symptoms
  • Osteitis pubis symptoms involve pain in the groin or pelvic area when running, doing sit-ups or squatting exercises.
  • Pain may develop gradually and often be mistaken for a muscle strain or groin strain.
  • In severe cases, the athlete may begin to walk with a waddling gait.
  • An X-ray may show an irregular pubic symphysis which is the joint between the two pubic bones at the front of the pelvis. There may be signs of bone thickening and inflammation.
So, as I speculated above, his last injury was Groin, which could be Osteitis Pubis, this may manifest in Waddling Gait and Inflammation.

Why did we bring on aurier for Lamela and not gedson? How many bloody defenders did we need on the pitch if we were trying to win the game? Gedson has looked ok when his come and can transition with the ball well.

Yesterday was the day when Jose started imposing himself on the team. He has been soft since November but now that has changed and we entered a new phase, the real Jose management style which has won him tons of trophies.

Lamela's fitness obviously need taking care of.

Meanwhile, Aurier was blatanlty deployed as a winger so your point about defenders is moot.

Ironically they are world champions.

How many of that squad were playing in Ligue 1 at the time?
Hardly any I would imagine.
There's a reason for that also.
I was actually referring to the French players in our squad, as this thread is about the prem game against Burnley, not the France WC win in 2018.

Hairy’s Post Match Thoughts

1. Another sub par performance. That being said, we are definitely a “oh shit, we’re behind, let’s turn up the intensity“ type team, proving the skill is there.

2. This team, as a whole, has poor foot skill. Basic trapping and passing has evaporated. Not sure why we insist on flicks and lobs to move the ball down the pitch. On the ground to someone’s feet for God’s sake. Dele is particularly guilty here.

3. LoCelso continues to impress. Totally different team when he came in.

4. Lumping it forward to Lucas is a waste of time.

5. Remember when Toby was nearly flawless?

6. Lamela was a bundle of energy yesterday, not sure why he was subbed off.

7. Dire was a beast, best match I’ve seen in a couple season.

8. Serge continues to disappoint. If he could just cross and attack the box occasionally, he’d be a serviceable wing back.

9. Dreading trip to Deutschland

I take your point but this would be apparent in any league with regular participation in football. Even if it is mild it is still there, and should be in his medical notes.
