"Therefore, having fully considered all available options, including a number of late expressions of interest provided to the EFL, the EFL Board has unanimously determined with enormous regret that Bury’s membership be withdrawn."

I guess there will be more to this that comes out. I hope Steve Dale doesn't live in Bury.

Gotta feel for the Bury supporters.

The League need to look at themselves and the rules. Seems like any old chancer is allowed to buy a club and take the piss.

Bury gone. What a huge shame

Ultimately I blame the FA. Their fit and proper policy is really just fattened coffers. Any old tycoon can buy a club these days, milk them for all they’re worth, and feed the leftovers to the dogs.

Yes the clubs have a degree of responsibility, but the FA are clearly uninterested in anything other than riding the gravy train. Portsmouth, Blackpool, Notts County, Bolton, Bury...it’s a sad state of affairs.

It seems like there’s very little to stop a corrupt individual from draining a club dry. Greed is eating football. It won’t be long before there’s only the Prem and Championship left in England.

Bury expelled this evening.

Shame the EFL will not investigate what went on at its former owners over the last(say) 5 years - as there will be lessons the EFL need to learn in knowing when an EFL club us about to buy the buffers or require done kind of care and support programme from EFL ( including strong arming out an owner caught breaking rules orlaws - as happened at Liverpool)

The future of lower league football is going to become be that the Premier League clubs come in and offer to provide funds to the league 1 and 2 clubs and in return they take X amount of youth players on loan each season. Glorified B teams.

England really needs to look at how France test new owners before a takeover. It literally takes months and all kinds of government agencies are involved outside of the French FA. Jim Ratcliffe just bought Nice yesterday and has been doing his due diligence since like April.

Will there be a phoenix club?
There's bound to be something, yeah. The stadium was sold off a while ago though, so they were only tennants. Their landlord is a bridging loans company that probably doesn't give a shit about football, and would stand to make a packet on what would be prime housing development land in quite a residential area.

They'd probably end up having to play in a different town, and that would severely hamper the potential for success.

And people in here think our whole world has ended because of a run of poor results, I would rather have the chance of seeing a shit result than never to see my team ever again...

It's the way the whole world is going, it's only the rich that are getting richer, everyone else are on their own and those that need help the most are basically fucked...
Just football doing the same as the corporate world, retail etc.

Like the days when there were lots of different independent shops or small chains. Now everywhere is a Tesco or similar and no little men are able to survive.

If a phoenix club can keep the name Bury FC then they can recover from this. Cold comfort, but it might not be the end of the world.
There are a lot of "classic" clubs in the Vanarama who did not go bust, they just got relegated. Even if Bury don't get back to the EFL there is still life in non-league football.
