Unfortunately, Abramovich has pumped significant money into that club and they've had a lot of success, from winning 3 Leagues and a CL, where they've become a sustainable club. They have one of the highest revenues in the world, even higher than Liverpool and have the biggest following outside of UK in terms of being London club. They also develop crazy amount of talent as a club without spending big, but fortunately for us, they've had clueless managers to know how to handle talents like KDB, Salah, Lukaku whilst producing talents like Courtois, Christensen, Matic, Azpilicueta.Oh I would never stop laughing...

its more complicated than that. He owns Chelsea via 2 or three companies. the money he has pumped in has been via some shells: ie Abramovic own company X, which in turn owns company y, which in turn oowns company Z. Company Z owns chelsea, and is owed a billion quid. Abramovic loaned the money via the string of companies, and converted that personal debt to equity in say, company x. So he sells chelsea with or without the loans being paid and gets it all back because he sells company X, in which he owns the equity.
Thats losely how its done. very losely, and im sure there are still plenty of legal hurdles in the whole game
