He wasn't awful today. I think he and Porro (who IMO is trying to get Frank sacked) linked well enough.
Thought he was fine today - he was busy, made a few good challenges, tried his best, but it basically summed up why I thought it was a weird signing in the first place. I've seen Bentancur and Sarr give that exact same performance plenty of times in the past 2 years. I'm sure he'll improve but as an 8 it's pretty clear that his strengths/weaknesses are broadly the same as our other mids.
Ironically Gray probably had his best 45 minutes in a Spurs shirt and showed a glimpse of what a more accomplished midfielder might be able to do for us. I highly doubt Gray will repeat that on the regular, but fuck we really just need a midfielder who can put their foot on it, control games and pass the fucking football.

In the past 4 months, Spurs clearly needed a player who could provide attacking and creative impetus who could galvanise the team.
So they sign Gallagher, who neither has much attacking nor creative impetus.

hes an upgrade on bentancur, i agree that to really push on we need a midfielder with a different skill set, but gallagher is an upgrade on bentancur! and when weve basically got him for the same money we got for johnson, its good business.
the next midfielder that comes through the doors does need to be a pass master....it seems the game is lacking them in general tho, its all dumb athlete stuff these days, which is why the product is poor.
all our midfielders instantly look a lot better if the 3 in front of them werent so fucking useless too! we really do have a sack of shit up front, its championship level bad. put the PSG wingers in front of our midfield and they look a lot better, cos the ball actually gets used well.

Very overrated by loads here. Doesn't move the needle whatsoever. A slight improvement on a player in a broken system. Absolute waste of money as far as I'm concerned.
A very, very slight upgrade. A player on huge wages and a long contract. He's more future deadwood. He's decent, but any team that has ambitions of being a top 4/5 team would not be having him as a starter.
Dude, Ryan Mason had less Premier and Championship career goals and assists in his entire career (admittedly truncated) than Gallagher did in his first loan spell.

for where we are right now tho, hes a decent signing. we need to face reality, we are fucking shit and a long way off being where we want to be. the way things are going we are going to struggle to attract actual quality, so slight improvements are a must right now, i think hes actually a decent upgrade on bentancur, hes so negative, really does set the tone.

No he's not though. We didn't need another Duracell bunny. We need players that can recycle the ball and calm us the fuck down. We also shoukdvt be buying above average players for a manager that is getting sacked.
He solves absolutely no problems in that team, as evidenced by today. If we signed him as a back up, like Villa tried to do, aye, that's grand. But he's not fixing our ability to hold the ball and have any degree of control on a game. A midfielder is more urgent than any of the attacking positions because we need to get them the ball. But we should've only went for loans with no obligations for any players, unless a star who any manager would like becomes available. It's just more crap on more crap, which is why this squad is so useless.

its not crap when he does upgrade bentancur and hes english. its about time bentancur went now.
i agree we need a midfielder whos going to set the tempo and orchestrate, but who? them players seem to be a dying breed now. we havent had a legit one since modric.
when maddison comes back it will make a big difference to our play, he drops to pick up easy balls off the deeper players. when that happens, gallagher will add more weight.
theres no point teams like us copying the better sides, we dont have the players, we need our own style for what we have. 3 up front now is just dead, better off packing midfield and winning that battle, rather than two shit wingers who cant affect a game. stick 2 up top and and beef the midfield, try something different ffs, this shit aint working with poor technical footballers.
Either sign a Wharton, Anderson, Smit etc or just don't sign anyone. Bissouma is the best replacement for Bentancur because he has the ability to break a press and let us move through the lines. Signing a player who did the job of a player who shouldn't be playing anyway is just daft. He doesn't fix anything at all.
Maddison is done. He was already missing a big chunk of the season with injuries, and he relied on explosive movements to get away from players, and will be 31 by the time he's back.
The front 3 can't get the ball because we have no one on midfield to play through lines and get the ball. Gallagher does not change that. So a continuation of more hoof ball. Even if we make our own style, a player like Gallagher is not good enough to lead our midfield. Guarantee in a year, people will be calling him useless and a waste of money. There's absolutely no foresight with this transfer. We have Sarr, Bergvall and Bent who have that profile. We're blocking Berg's development, which is just stupid. If we'd loaned him, grand, but buying him is daft. Now we have to get rid of two players rather than one for the sake of adding a pretty meh player.
