Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

A mistake from Cristian Romero allowed Cunha to pull one back, but Mac Allister restored Argentina's two-goal advantage before half-time.

Romero is just a liability, even though Argentina won. The guy offers hope. Embodies our whole team.
He is what he is he'll always give you something. People making out he's better pr on a level with prime Alderweireld Vertonghen or King are delusional. If we scout properly we can replace him no worries.

I'd sell him, too many mistakes for a supposed 'top' player.
In fact I really have had enough of players stepping stoning their way through football, I want players who want to be here!
That "stepping stone" thingy will always be part of football. And that is how Spurs get their player...by buying players who used their old clubs as a stepping stones to get to a club on the level of, well, Spurs...

Tottenham Star Labelled 'Best in the World' After International Display

Cristian Romero Shines on Argentina Duty

‘He had a phenomenal game’

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero in action

Argentine media were impressed with Romero’s display against Brazil, with La Voz giving him a 9/10 match rating:

“He was having an impressive game, but he got overconfident and gave away a ball early on that made it 2-1. Still, he came back with all his personality. Great game.”
Clarin also hailed the 26-year-old’s performance as ‘phenomenal’ and suggested he may be among the best central defenders in the world:

“El Cuti must be regretting that gross error on Cunha's goal because, apart from that play, he had a phenomenal game, anticipating and initiating several plays. He may be the best first-choice centre back in the world.”
Finally, BolaVip handed Romero a 6/10 rating due to his error that led to Cunha’s first-half goal:

“He made a gross error that led to Matheus Cunha's goal, but he managed to recover and win convincingly in the individual duels.”
Romero has endured a stop-start season at Tottenham and was set back by two injuries before making his return earlier this month.

The Argentinian missed over three months of action and has made just 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring once in just over 1,300 minutes of play.

All good stuff to hear- 100 more AI rehashed articles like this and we just might get 100m for him yet.

I'd be happy to get him out of the team even if we get 40 mil for him. He is polar opposite of a leader. He is rotten apple that starts to rot the whole thing even more.

I don't get the logic how people somehow use Levy actions as an excuse to how Romero acts. While reality is that both of them are bad apples causing rot. One is not because of the other. Both are problem and both should get the fuck out. When someone has exposed themselves by putting themselves far above the club, the coach and everything else, he is clearly part of a big problem. He constantly has viewed himself to be too good for the coach, too good for the club, too good for the squad while in fact this season 18yo Archie Gray has been far better and useful player.

People who make excuses to his behavior and talk about our lack of ambition and transfer strategy are totally missing the point. He could basically do that when he has given HIS best. But he is just looking around, finding excuses and point fingers when he himself has been total fucking piece of shit. Putting in either very poor performances or being totally missing.

He has ABSOLUTELY NO GROUNDS to ask questions of others if he has not done his part. He is opposite of a leader, he is a pussy who only decides to turn up if everyone are bowing and kneeling in front of him. If everything is going his way, only then he could decide to give a shit and try to do something. Literally could not be any further from being leader.

Yes. Kane wanted out of the club. But until the end of his last season he performed brilliantly. He was role model professional. An undisputed star of the side, carrying load of two players. Romero is not even carrying half of one persons load. Get him out, no one will remember he ever played for this club in just few years time.

People are in absolute dismay. This complete deal has been a waste of everyones time.

Gonzalo Montiel bagged the final penalty in that WC final - what does that make him today?

Romero is overrated. He is a great distributor. So bang average in every other sporting aspect which is important for a defender. He has been unreliable, uninterested and unavailable.

Need to learn from these mistakes and stay far away from the Argentines from now on.

Lamela, Romero, Lo Celso, Foyth, Veliz- have we had many others recently?

Thinking back on more robust and stoic older Argentinian players like Heinze I don't think there is a problem with them generally, but certainly it feels like the current crop have collectively felt this era is a "moment" for their national team, and have prioritized it above everything else.

This guy is our Pogba I think. The latter also had his own fanbase among United fans who, mesmerized by the glimpses of brilliance he was showing on the pitch from time to time, were giving him the benefit of the doubt no matter what. To back their arguments, they also were often pointing out his World Cup win and how he was a regular in one of the best national teams in the world. They were adamant that there was a world class player in there, but this manager or that teammate was failing him.

Common complaints were also pretty much identical in both cases: Low commitment to the club and the game in general, an extremely reckless and error-prone style of play, concerns related to injuries & availability and so on.

As far as I know Romero has little to no off-the-pitch drama surrounding him, and he's not on ridiculous wages so we shouldn't have much of a problem finding a suitor this summer.

One poster made me smile recently even though they weren't wrong.
Missed Cutey s passing out from the back which is good but his job is to stop goals which he isn't good at. As posters have said sell him to AM for top dollar and bring in a good replacement and Levy can invest the difference in the hotel project.Win/Win

Great to watch when he's on it but seeing that less and less for Spurs these days.

Great time to cash in if we can get 60m+. Not hard to find a competent CB who will actually be available for ~30m and put the rest towards our shitty frontline.

This is how I feel. I don't blame him for wanting to be at a serious club that can win trophies, and I don't blame him for being upset at the mismanagement of his injury, and the mismanagement of all injuries generally at the club needs to be exposed.

I respect him for believing he's among the best at his craft, and that he should be playing for the best clubs and the best honors. He sees us wanking about with a skinflint wage bill and reluctance to pay money for quality in the transfer market and a manager who's a joke and so he wants out. It's only natural.

This kind of ambition should be in the heart of every great player, but unfortunately with our ownership and manager, we don't appeal to players like this.

We've an unserious, unambitious owner and board, we've an unserious lower league manager at best, and an unserious back room and medical staff.

So why would a World Cup champion want to play here when Madrid or any other ambitious club is sniffing around?

What your post is doing is basically justifying a player to wait to have glory delivered to him on a silver plate. Waiting and dreaming and aiming and believing, but doing absolute nothing on his own.

That is really weird take from Spurs fan.

Again, I got it when people talked on such terms about Kane. Who in fact did absolutely everything he could to make things happen. He scored, he created, he fought and it was clear he cared. But this situation here is different, Romero has done nothing.

All I'm saying is that I don't blame Cristian Romero in the least for wanting to spend his prime years with a serious football club.

There is losing focus and there is being so braindead as to forget you're even on the pitch. I've always hated that walking thing he does with the ball. He aint at Real Madrid yet.

I wonder if post match the Argie medical staff played down their relationship with him on twitter.

Looks like after all the talk about Real Madrid, he may actually be going to their smaller rivals.

That mistake against Brazil sums up why he isn't and will never be world class. He doesn't have the right attitude or concentration level of a top athlete.

Atletico have reached the CL final twice in the last 10 years, been in the quarter final each of the last two, and it's been more than a decade since they missed qualifying for CL football. They are not exactly a small club.

Couldn’t really care either way. Much like every member of the squad I’m not that bothered if they were sold or not. There aren’t many I’d be desperate to keep.

I feel very disconnected from this team tbh.

I think it might be a chicken and egg situation. As I don’t go to games or watch them on telly I feel a bit nonplused about them.

If I did go to games or watch them on the tv I’m pretty sure I would hate all of them.

Just because his pal Messi said he's the greatest defender in the world, he will always think he's world class.

Argentina squad literally have no shame and full of themselves. Martinez juggling the ball just continues to prove why that squad is so unlikeable. I hope some of their key players miss out on the WC next year and crash out at group stage.
