Article Daniel Levy: The Case for the defence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I like this article, especially the financial stats, which I'll probably use at some point, so I hope they're correct :-)

For me as I've said so many times, we've done ok under ENIC, about what you'd expect overall. Better in the lge, worse in the cups, a bit like Sherwood :-)

However, as I've also said so many times, I would love ENIC to sell up to a billionaire benefactor, and see the club become part of the new 'big Six', because we're not gonna make that under ENIC. We're the 6th biggest sure, but the new 'big Five' are a definite step or two away from us.

I think without a billionaire sugar daddy Levy is about as good as it gets.
I also believe he does what he does with a genuine desire to see us succeed.
Of course he has made his mistakes, but in truth we punch above our weight under him and Im not sure we would under another chairman (without billions)

Personally, I don't want a billionaire benefactor. It doesn't count. Rather do it sustainably, like Liverpool look like they might. Make our own history.

The great Bobby Davro, the family of the acclaimed actor Bernard Bresslaw, musician Chas Hodges,
are heading a consortium backed by the generous billionaire Khazi of Kalibar , it is
rumoured in the corridors of enlightenment . ,
"To bring back the glory days" as they feel the club is constantly treading water and up the
swanee without a paddle.
Levy/Lewis are digging their heels in , as in the case of Russian Roman who they told
to take a running jump.

That article is meaningless. With due respect to the author of course but I could write the exact opposite and it would be as true.

You are kidding me?

Profit/Loss
Total loss before taxation was £49.8M.

Other figures
The club reported net debt had dropped to £69M (from £81M).

This was helped by a £46.8M injection from FSG into the business to clear a historic stadium loan facility.

It's small fry compared to City/Chelsea. That £46m is probably Toure's transfer fee plus wages for a year or two.

Owners can plug holes, but they have a long-term vision for what they want the club to be. Interestingly that's not built around a new stadium, they seem to think the TV money increases will do it.

Liverpool are much bigger than us, so we can't follow their route.

Plus I think they got massively in debt to build this team, so they are 'buying the title' if they win it. Tell their fans it 'doesn't count', I doubt they care. Tell the City fans as they nicked the title off Utd on the last day, 'it doesn't count', I doubt they care. Tell the Chelsea fans as they became the only London club to win the European Cup/CL 'it doesn't count ... etc etc

They don't care. I would.

Rather not have a billionaire from a country with a more than questionable human rights record in charge. I'd rather not be owned by tax avoiders either in the interests of balance.

Re: following Liverpool's route, we make money. We buy decent players. Put in a good coach, back him and who knows what will happen?

Why do you think Joe Lewis lives in the Bahamas?

Yep, you were, my mistake.

But can you show me where Livepool have made money?

Probably not, I remember reading they've posted a loss. But as I said, owners can plug gaps - they're building towards sustainability. With Champions League football and the new tv deal, they're probably there. I think FSG's investment is relatively modest compared to Chelsea and City.

There's a halfway house between the Glazers and sugar daddies. Maybe FSG are it. They seem to understand the sporting side and what's needed anyway.

Why doesn't Joe Lewis go all in? Guy is 77. Might as well see Spurs win shit before you die, Joe. Can't take all that money with you to your grave.
