I think that he needs competition for his spot. We've shown a real paucity of options as far as replacing him goes when he was injured and I'm sure he could flourish into something more. At present, though, he's just as likely to be a liability as anything. With Eriksen cutting in from the left and not offering a great deal of defensive cover, Rose really needs to be able to motor up and down the pitch but to be able to cross from deep AND get back earlier than he does. It's an impossible ask of most but perhaps Rose will grow into it.
At present, he just isn't there yet. It's up to the manager to pressure him just right into developing into it - and it's up to the coaching staff and his team-mates to help him.

Actually, it's directly reminiscent of Walker's mistake against Chelsea, where he did the exact same move as the final defender against Mata.

Pretty much yeh. I still think Walker was fouled in that instance though, shoved in the back.
He wanted to keep the ball in play, time was running out and we were a goal down. But an error anyway I hope rose hasn`t a twitter account.
He still could've turned facing the ball. Under no circumstances do you pull a stunt like that as the final defender, regardless of position on the field. Fortunately it appears Walker's come a long way since then. Hope the same for Rose if he remains in the position.
I think it worked wonders with Walker, though. Dropping him for a game or two, even if it was just to put someone who wasn't fit to lace his boots, made him consider and improve. Doesn't hurt that the game he was suspended for recently, Naughton did a lot better than he has recently at left back and is a slight reminder to Walker that he IS replaceable.
Walker has really pushed on since his second season syndrome and Rose is, effectively, a new addition to the team. Just need him to bed in and develop to where we want him to be while preparing alternatives should that become necessary.
Chadli, Lamela, Chiriches, Eriksen, Soldado, Paulinho, Capoue - all been here less than six months
Rose, Townsend, Bentaleb, Fryers, Kane, Naughton - all returning loanees fading into the first team
Vertonghen, Lloris, Holtby, Siggy - all arrived in the last eighteen months.

You make a great point, and I'm tempted to agree with you, but it seems to me that we have one position where we have a gaping weakness. I've been hoping he'd come along and haven't said anything against him since he's come into our first team. But his one-on-one abilities are lacking and don't seem to be improving, and he goes on to violate what is arguably the first rule a coach teaches his defenders in the preteen years.
As I said, I hope he comes around. But I also won't be at all disappointed if our only addition this winter is another left back.

I agree it was an unforgivable mistake, I've made it known on here abundantly since the game that it was the single worst mistake a professional defender can make and that I think we finally need to consider our options. But it's no excuse to stoop to such a comment. We're above it.
