I think he could make a fine LB personally, I think the comparisons to Walker are very fair.
It wasnt long ago Walker was critisised for having no defencive sense at all, was supposedly a liability and wouldnt make it. I think this season he has proven a little patience with a young defender can go a long way.
Rose has the pace to play the position, is good on the ball, has a good cross - he has the offensive attributes.
He is a strong little fecker as well with some good aggression about him, I like that.
What he needs, IMO, is like Walker to build a real understanding of what defending is.
For me he doesnt show the willingness you want to get into position when play gets turned over. And he doesnt just play it simple when in defensive positions. If he does this he will IMO be a perfectly good LB, good enough to play for us.
So I think in time he could be fine.
Having said that, I would still buy a "proper" LB immediately to help the team in the short term, the squad in the longer term and Rose personally develop.

quite a few of our defenders struggle with "show the willingness you want to get into position when play gets turned over," in fact I might go so far as to say the only two defensive players (if you can call walker that) that show willingness to retreat and win the ball is Sandro and Walker. Of the rest only Dawson truly fights to win the ball back, but he's often so far back to begin with that it's not a question of really getting back.

Of the rest only Dawson truly fights to win the ball back, but he's often so far back to begin with that it's not a question of really getting back.It's a weakness we need to abolish from all our defenders but as a WB he needs it more than many!

Fair enough, but he doesn't particularly remind me of a young Walker. I'm a big Walker fan and whilst he's made a few big errors at right back whilst making the position his own, in my opinion he's always had that defensive brain and looked at home in the position. To me, Rose doesn't look like he has the defensive acumen to do well. Walker has the physique to atone for a slip up or whatever and out muscle or manoeuvre an opponent. When Rose is beaten, he scraps like a midfielder and my heart is always in my mouth fearing he's going to get himself sent off as the last man.
I agree that he's impressive going forward, but I just totally think it's the wrong idea to stick an offensively astute player in a defensive position and hope his defensive skills will just 'develop'. Maybe it's a dated view judging from some of the opinions on Rose here but I think a full back needs to be a defender first, attacker second- like Walker. I think this is even more important now Sherwood is in charge playing 4-4-2. Whatever you personally think of the formation it leaves us very vulnerable at the back and we can't be having roaming full backs who don't have the ability to make a match-saving tackle in their locker.
This doesn't mean I don't like Rose though and I'm desperate for him to do well- if only for THAT goal!
Plenty of players are attacking and move back to find a role in defence. Ashely Cole is one of the best LBs Ive ever seen and he started as a striker (As did Sol Campbell iirc). When he broke through he was laughably bad defensively, since when he went on to be a fantastic defender.
Rose is strong IMO, though not as outwardly athletic as Walker.
The comparison is more in that that are both good going forward, but shambolic in defence. Walker did not always have good defensive accumen, he was a liability in his position and decision making - but he had electric pace and aggression as a get out of jail free card.
I am not Roses biggest fan, I want a superior LB brought in ASAP, but I do believe Rose is a LB and can grow into a very decent one.

Well considering Cole has been on the bench because of his performance and Verts hasn't been playing because of injury, I'd say it proves quite a bit.
I don't think Shaw is currently better than Rose. I still he is worse offensively and slightly better defensively. Rose is above or at Shaw's level right now, but not for long. I think Evra is more experienced than Rose, but I wouldn't say better. Not even a question, I'd rather have Rose than Santon. Won't comment on the rest - either I think better or haven't seen enough to judge.
In that case, we should go all out and sign Wilshire... 'cos he's pretty fucking offensive!
(but I agree on the other stuff... Though I think Shaw will be a Prem. Top 4 player by this time next year!)
Rose has all the physical tools to become a very very good full back. Pace and strength in abundance, even has a decent jump on him. He is aggressive which is good and bad, but you'll take that.
If it means playing him every week to turn him into a very good LB in a season or twos time, then so be it. There isn't exactly a plethora of premier standard LB talent around the globe at the minute and it would be nice to produce a decent player for once.
The real mistake was letting Benny go at the start of the season. Would have been much better to leave Naughton out of the picture and have BAE and Rose in rotation.
If it means playing him every week to turn him into a very good LB in a season or twos time, then so be it. There isn't exactly a plethora of premier standard LB talent around the globe at the minute and it would be nice to produce a decent player for once.

If we lose the appeal does the ban get increased?
I would be surprised if we lose the appeal as a) It was the wrong decision, have not heard or read a single pundit, press or ex-ref who agrees with the call b) I think Sherwood's post match view's were refreshing, in that he didn't attack the officials as all Manager do, I hope that because of this too it goes in our favour.
