Davinson Sanchez

can only be used in a back 3. still just not good enough due to his sheer incompetence with a football at his feet. he only works in a back 3 as hes got more options of support than when hes in a back 4. far from ideal to have players in a professional football team who are no good with an actual football at their feet....and he aint the only one we got with that problem

He was good tonight even when we were playing the 4-3-3

Yes, that's true. Even when we went to 4 I did not mean to imply Sanchez was only good in a 3.

He was just plain good. When the camera was on him you could see his eyes. Judge a defender by their eyes when the camera is on them: if you see their eyes are scanning the pitch like a crackhead rummaging through a bin while looking at the opponent's next dead ball, you know they're in the game.

:deledoubt:

He literally can not head the ball

Sell him asap, cost 42m and he's the worst defender we have.

No matter what he does, he'll have a sub set of fans defending him to the hilt because he cost 42m and came from Ajax....

He can't defend, can't pass, shit on the ball, shit off the ball, shit on the ground, shit in the air. Panicky and creates chaos in our defence.

Get rid. PLEASE.

Thought he was good tonight too. Would be so good to see him be the player we want him to be!

he's got pace and a he's a good tackler, not the best in the air though and has been bullied in the past by guys like Mitrovic and Carroll - big lumps basically.

If he can just work on the physical side of his game and as others have said - heading and distribution he could be really excellent.

Was once our most expensive signing in the club. Has gone backwards ever since. How our scouts decided to buy him instead of De Ligt I’ll never know.

Sell sell sell
Poch made some very poor transfer calls - Sanchez is up there but certainly not the worst

Unless my recollection is off, we tried to De Ligt and De Jong the same summer we got Sanchez, but Ajax were adamant in not letting them go, so we settled for Sanchez, funny how they weren't so fussed about him.

We went back in to get De Ligt and De Jong again, in the dreaded no transfer window, but were again rebuffed, there's an interview with De Jong after he went to Barca in which he said he'd considered Spurs seriously but felt he wasn't done at Ajax yet.

Yep, literally he was not able to contain Championship attacking players.

Once let player run past him easily (and Aurier came to rescue what would have been goal)
Once absolutely misjudged the flight of the ball and we conceded from next situation (and VAR rescued us).

Sad to see. And what makes it more serious - he just keeps getting worse, not improving.
Remember, in his 1st season he was stating CB when we finished 3rd. He also started all of our CL games this season (when in the end we were knocked out by Juve). And now... can't even do job against Championship side.

He was in no way the problem tonight whoever played the same thing happens these tactics don't work in the EPL in 2021. All else is mute. The moment Son hits the post tge game was done.
Disagree.

For the goal, Sanchez came out of his position to defend, yet he got turned and past. Couldn't stop the cross coming in. When a center half has to step out, you expect him to break the play. If you can't win ball, or block, just foul. Center half is expected to deal with cross, when you come out, it leaves one less defender with physical presence in the box. Just break it up.

It's not a great mistake here, but enough to affect game. In this very game, you could see Dier threw himself to fulfill this tactical duty in similar situation. And Sanchez had same issues almost every time. Beside this, he hardly instill any assurance. There is a reason, team attacked more down this side of the pitch when he's playing, not only now under Mourinho.
