We have conceded 15 league goals this season:

Everton = 1 goal from free kick.

Southampton = 1 goal from penalty.

Newcastle = 1 goal from penalty from free kick.

Man United = 1 goal from penalty.

West Ham = 2 goals from free kicks.

Palace = 1 goal from free kick.

Liverpool = 1 goal from corner.

Leicester = 1 goal from penalty.

Wolves = 1 goal from corner.

10 out of 15 goals from set pieces is utterly disgraceful.

How many set pieces have we had to defend though?

Dont think it matters tbh.

Two thirds of the goals we concede are from set pieces, at any level of football that's poor and obviously a very big problem the team has
The first point to consider is that we have the third-best defensive record in the league, so we don't concede many goals anyway.
It matters because it is an indicator of whether we are particularly bad at defending set pieces or we are conceding too many corners and fouls in our own half (i.e. having to defend many more set pieces).

Probably a bit of both

Strange to include pens in a 'stat' about how many set pieces we have conceded.

Of course it matters - if you concede enough corners and/or dangerous free kicks you give the opposition more opportunities to perfect their deliveries, routines, runs and eventually something will get though.

If GK who concedes 10 goals from 30 big chances is better than a keeper who concedes 5 goals from 10 big chances then the same logic must apply here.

Minimise the amount the ball spends in your third and bad things are less likely to happen. Simple.

Today and in other matches we look secure in defending these set pieces for most of the match and then concede in the last 5 mins. Is it that the players are tiring or do the opposition throw caution to the wind in the last 5 mins. A poster the other day suggested taking Son off allow the opposition to throw more players forward. However Son should not be key to defending a corner.

Those aerial balls into our box have been a nightmare since GW1 with Everton and Calvert Lewin and they will continue to be the biggest problem defensively until we get some central defenders.
Mourinho wanted one in the summer for a reason.

Dier at 6 foot 4 he really needs to be taking more responsibility in these situations.

We sit back for 90 minutes let the team were playing constantly come at us you can see the panic in our defending booting it any where and give away stupid fouls all the time near our box and corners it’s a joke really .

Fucking tragic that we see the same shit week in week out. We've conceded next to no goals in open play this year, but keep getting undone by the basic fucking corners and free kick shit.

Most posters here will tell you that indirect free kicks and crosses are barely worth having because they are such poor goal scoring chances ... except if they're against us for fucks sake.

Sick of it now. Change the fucking record.

Necessary post. It has been our Aquelles' heel, as I've been saying for a while. We won't win the Europa League - never mind the Premier League - as long as we keep conceding from set pieces.

I'd just add another information to the post:

West Ham - 1 own goal;
Liverpool - 1 own goal;
Leicester - 1 own goal;

In fact, we've conceded only two 'normal goals' from open play in 15 matches: against Southampton and Brighton (which shouldn't be allowed) - we've won both matches.

We are still a work in progress and I know some results and performances have been difficult to take. But if we can take one positive from this is that we are defending much better as a team - huge improvement in relation to last season.

Yeah, it's shocking.

I brought this up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back after the West Ham game. Which was what? 10 games ago!?

and here we are. 15th league game gone and it's still an issue.

It actually looked like, for a while after the West Ham game, that we had been practicing our defending from set pieces. We looked relatively good against Burnley, West Brom, Brighton, Man City, Chelsea and Woolwich defending them. Which were our following 6 games. And we had only conceded 1 goal in general from that lot.

But then since then, like you say, 6 goals conceded. 4 of which were from set pieces (or penalties).
