Player Dejan Kulusevski

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Really dont know on this one. £30m is a decent wedge. Who is the real Kulusevski the Parma one and the who was excellent for us last season or the Juventus one and this seasons version? Cant help feeling the balance of the side would be better with a bit of pace and goals on the right and a creative midfielder. If we could get say Maddison and Brennan Johnson or similar i wouldnt be against not signing him.

I don't think that's really true.

The added fixture congestion of the Champions League negatively interacted with Conte's refusal to rotate the squad, and then the increasing understanding that the parties were headed for divorce, the weird season structure with the World Cup, the death on the coaching staff, Conte's surgery, it just became more and more of a slog in which Conte's head was less and less in it, something that has never been characteristic of his career.

During the period last year when we were playing once a week, chasing something important and with Conte fully spiritually engaged we were genuinely brilliant despite several bang average players in the side and fairly risk-averse football.

Since leaving Conte's tactics behind it has been can't-take-your-eyes-off-it football in both bad and good ways, and we've shipped 12 goals in three games. Conte was doing what he was doing for a reason.
So fight for CL and following season get knocked out early so conte can shine and play 1 match a week?

Given the general performance of the squad this season, I'd err on the side of leniency when judging just about any of our players (the main exceptions being Hugo with his obvious decline and Dier being woefully inadequate as a starting CB for a club with top 4 ambitions).

I know lots of players can show a hot streak that never returns, but Deki was outstanding towards the end of last season which coincided with our best run of form under Conte. When you combine that with his young age of 23 then it's worth the gamble to see how he performs under the new management (unless, of course, said new manager actively doesn't want him).

£30m isn't cheap but it's not all that expensive as far as current prices go. If he's even half decent then we'd recoup the majority of that fee with a sale, and if he's back to his best he'll be worth a lot more.

Ok, is 30M for what he's given this season expensive? Because that's what you're buying and I'm not sure that's 'half decent'. So that would be 30M into the fireplace...sound a good deal?

In recent times for whom and for how many have we recouped these major fees for? We are up to the gills with dross and it makes sense to add another after only a couple months of like 6 goals total?

People are just so sure that what they think they saw last season is a player... Happy to note we've not taken this one up yet so it is less likely that we are going to do it. But if we do I look forward to the "what's the matter with Kulu" takes in this thread.

Don't know why you have that takeaway - it was always an 18 month deal and waiting until this summer to activate the buy option was predictable as it kicked the financial can down the road and could have spared our blushes if he ruptured an ACL this spring.

Happy to concede that if there was a probability of actually purchasing him then it's slightly lower now than this time last year (where one would assume it would have been a certainty, as he was that good). Still think it happens though.

No, rotate the damn squad!

And anyway, that whole response of mine was to the claim that Conte's tactics changed this season, which isn't true.

The context just went tits up, in ways both totally predictable and sometimes unpredictable. And it was a marriage that was never going to survive any turbulence.

To tie it back to the thread, if all four of Kane, Son, Richy, and Kulu are to be on the team next year, and we are in a European competition (or even if we aren't, frankly) we simply have to rotate those guys across the front three. All four of them will be better for it.

IDK but as support I point you toward our taking of Bentancur's option last season...

IMO he wasn't but I still offer everyone to go have a second look at last years "borderline world class" player...fresh eyes will tell a different story...one similar to what we are seeing this season which is he can't make his own time and space...anything beyond that is conditional...if the porridge is juuuuuust right!

If it happens it will be a bad thing for the club going forward just as it was with so many contracts and extensions in the last 5 or 6 seasons..."What's the matter with Kulu" will be a weekly lament...

Still think he needs a solid run in the 10 role to see what he can offer there. It's unlikely to happen, but I'd like to see Son and Kane as a front 2, Deki in the 10 and Bissouma + Skipp/Sarr as the pivot behind, with the wing backs providing width. Kane could also drop into the 10 if Richy is brought on/Deki is injured.

For whatever a player's word is worth, he's also specifically mentioned it as his favoured position:

“When I was in the Primavera of Atalanta, on the other hand, I played more in the centre because the action had to start from behind.

“My perfect role? Behind the strikers. When I play, I don’t think about goals or assists."

The problem is Kane, he has too much authority and it’s as if he does not allow any manager to rotate him as he’s after more and more records.

would we tho?

most agree he's in terrible form, and playing in a terrible team, and in season were he's been inuried for a period yet he's still has the joint 2nd most assists in the team having played substaintly less than hojbjerg and peri
If he was 26/27 i'd probably say nah, but for a 22/23 year old with the numbers he put up last season in a team that was playing good football post christmas and the numbers he's put up this season in a mega negative team i think it's worth a try for 30 million.

Can't really think of any young attackers you'd get for that price who are better. Certainly forrest not selling johnson for that little, you'd end up with another Gil.

the reality of the modern game and associated finances mean 'squad' players are far from cheap, promoted academy, or a £5m gem is as rare as rocking horse sh*t. It doesn't mean they don't happen but to get a quality squad in today's games means spending a bit of cash.

So for me, does £30m represent good value for a player on rotation that suits certain games, formations and periods of a game?

We've seen Son ham stringed by the football this season, with green shoots now appearing as our game has changed. It's fair to assume the same of Kulu, especially after his injury.

He had a cracking debut half a season, but was that based on him being free from constraints of Conte ball?

Personally speaking I like him, hopefully we will see some positive contributions to prove stale football was impacting him.

I think he’d be better suited to playing as the most advanced player in a midfield three rather than RW to be honest.

His best performances seem to come from when he’s all the way out wide. Emerson would be playing inside.

Still think with his work rate he deserves a look at playing attacking midfield 3. But too late into the season for experimenting
