Sonny is fast as fuck

Even faster compared to kulu
Sonny is incredibly fast, but more so when he gets his legs pumping in the open field than tricking his way past a player from a standing start.

And as we saw the other day, he has a deceptive and devastating way of changing gears and accelerating at pace that makes the likes of Adam Webster look like fools.

Sonny's also super fast with the ball at his feet, which slows down some fast guys more than others. There are subtleties to it.

I have seen two , maybe 3 posters at most that have criticised him over the last 10 pages on here

Wall to wall praise and optimism otherwise

Yeah it's incredible what people choose to focus on. Especially when they're considering 'he is slow' as criticism when it's just a basic observation and says nothing about his ability as a footballer. Almost everyone has been overwhelmingly optimistic about both Bentancur and Kulusevski since they became Spurs players, but no let's talk about how our fans are thick, spoiled whatever because of 1 or 2 guys.

An addiction to being outraged

The problem is, most football fans are slow.

You only need to see them all blocking the ticket gates up because they don't know what a QR code is, or how to hold a phone against a touch point.

I appreciate the nuances and you’ve covered all the bases there but I just think Sonny is quick off the mark

Kulu might get up a head of steam but I thought the comparison a bit off

I wouldn't take my car anywhere in a mess. You wouldn't invite people into your house if it looked like that.
My mate’s a decorator and his car is covered with dry paint stains. I don’t know how it doesn’t bother him. It looks like it’s been fucked by a transformer.

Anyway, Kulu. Decent first game. Anybody who’s laying into him after that cameo is mental.

Kulu’s not fast the way Sonny is, perhaps I was unclear in the way I said it. They’re both more fast than quick, but Son is more of both.

The other thing Sonny has is his two-footedness makes it difficult for defenders to cheat toward his more dangerous foot, allowing him to open space by means other than pure pace.

Not really because top speed is almost irrelevant in football and it's all about the first 5 yards or so. Kulusesvski accelerates slowly so struggles to beat a defender 1on1. This isn't an agenda it's just the reality of the player.
When it comes to taking players on 1 on 1, yes I see your point, but speed in football is more than just 1 on 1, so top speed is far from irrelevant. A person who may be fast on the first few meters may not run fast over a "longer" distance, while a player who's not that fast on the first few meters can run fast when he hits the stride.
Spurs under Conte rely quite a bit on counter-attacks and counter-attacking is not just 1 on 1 but having players run into the right positions, often simply by using top speed to outrun the opposition, and also running with the ball at the feet already in full stride.

It's almost irrelevant to a player in his position, or at least it's so secondary compared to acceleration as to not be worth much worry. It's more important as someone playing centrally or even a wing back who may have to track back, but as an attacking wide player most of the time you're going to be operating in tight spaces. Speed over the first few yards to get space for a cross/shot is the most important thing.

Lots of smaller players who accelerate quickly would be rinsed by other players in 100m, but make them look pedestrian in short distances. I do have a preference for wide players with a low centre of gravity who are able to burst past fullbacks.
