Player Destiny Udogie

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Like that he's going outside more and not just through the middle anyway. Noticed it against both Leicester and today.

Helps stretch the play big time.

could he of got away with a shirt pull on murphy for their winner? think dragusin might of been close enough to argue as cover. we defo lack the dark arts in this side. players like carvajal are taking yellows all day there and stopping a goal if thats madrid.

maybe in this instance theres not much udogie can do, he does initially stop his run back like hes unsure whether to go and that gives murphy an extra yard advantage straight away. defo question marks about udogies defending when chasing back. seen him try and get on the outside of the attacker before instead of getting on the inside and getting between the goal which was strange.

The interplay between Son, Udogie and Maddison in the earlier part of last season was thrilling to watch.
Can't wait until we have everyone 100% fit.

I worry that it isn't a fitness issue and that our most exciting play came early in the season when nobody had gotten to grips with what they were supposed to be doing and so it was all a bit "off the cuff".

Now that they are more drilled it seems that spark has gone and it's all just going through the motions.

Agree- so bizarre Ange doesn't just have the FBs switch it up going inside and outside. Could be amazing as a tactical maneuver.
He 100 % has the full backs to do it. They are being instructed to be in the pitch. If we went more conventional with our full backs it would cause teams big problems. Mixing it up would make us better. Everyone knows how we will play every single game.

The exciting play ended after the Chelsea match when we got red cards and injuries. Before and during that match we'd been tackling like maniacs.

That's a pretty fair point, actually.

We are an odd fanbase mind. Players are either under or overated. It's much more nuance than that, players including Gareth Bale go through fluctuating form as they grow and learn. There are peaks and troughs. My concern with Udogie and also Van Der Ven is that the uniqueness of Angeball is actually a hinderence to them learning the fundamentals of playing orthodox left centerback, and left fullback. Classic positioning and distance between oponent and touchline.

Not necessarily saying he is overrated but perhaps we all got a bit too excited last season and expected him to be this consistently elite player.

He's young and not there yet.
Definitely agree with you. He has it in him to be a world class left fullback if....if coached. Right now the emphasis has clearly been less on distances, positioning, concentration and reading the play, and more on inverting the play and becoming an attacking outlet in an auxiliary midfield fashion. That's loads to take on and he did it well, with a big injury too. Do you know he reminds me of? Kyle Walker before Pochettino coached him into the best RB of his generation. Same sloppy passing, poor game reading, over reliance on his pace and power to cover FU that wouldn't have happened had he been switched on earlier. Not going to lie VonnegutBusy VonnegutBusy got real reservations about 'Angeball'.

Oh I think I misspoke- I meant I don't know why he doesn't have them switch it up- not that he doesn't have the FBs for it- our FBs are fucking great and we should make the best use of them.

His problems are typical of all young players, he makes rash decision just as often as he is caught sleeping. He is a bit haphazard with his movements off the ball and his passing execution. That’s normal for anyone at this stage of their career.

As long as he stays hungry and keeps his head down I have no doubt he will be a beast of a full back. Just needs time to develop fully.

Quite.......

For perspective; remember how much of a liability Danny Rose was before he went out on Loan to Sunderland...... Even when he came back he was still rash and a bit of a card magnet.
