Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Before some people here slag him off after his first poor touch, remember that he's only played like a half hour of football for the last six months.

Spence just got past a defender like he wasn't there and delivered a close cross that should've ended in a goal.

It's been five minutes.

Everyone but Conte saw this coming.

Spence is doing a decent job defensively, blocking a shot on goal (though he should've been tighter on the defender) and dispossessing an attacker on the edge of the box.

Spence got a ball at the edge of the box, got past a defender and got off a decent shot at a tight angle. This is the RWB we've been crying for all season (now that we have Porro we're okay, I just don't understand).

I never understood it, people said 'Conte sees him in training' but I've never bought for a moment that he was so, so shit in training that he wasn't even worth 15/20 mins off the bench in games where Emerson was stinking it out.

Clearly there was something about him or the signing Conte didn't like.

Absolutely rapid + a powerhouse (especially for his age).

Lots of explosive energy in him.

Really could have done with that in final 3rd.

Hopefully this loan gives conte the win he wanted and also the 'out' to bring him back in the summer and say that Spense has proven that he wants to push himself etc.

Early days; but this was always the underlying concern for me.... Splash 45m on something we already had in the locker when we could have forced the issue on a CB instead.

I think he is a free spirit player by nature, quick, strong, skilful and unpredictable. To get the best out of him you just let him play, that’s not really how Conte operates. He must seem raw to Conte.

He is not a player I want sold, Conte is probably gone end of season, the kid has huge talent in the right system. For me he is far more gifted than KWP when he was with us and he hasn’t done too bad.

Hard to justify keeping him with Porro around .. they're both young right wing backs, neither will want to stick around as backup.

I think we'll see him on loan a lot in the next few years.

Conte had 2 senior RBs/RWBs in the squad who both performed well at the end of the previous season and contributed to us getting top 4 - he obviously puts a lot of value in that and the players who understand what he wants of them, he's a results manager and isn't going to risk that to integrate a young inexperienced player not up to speed with what he wants, unless he's left no other choice. He's not dropped Son despite his poor form and will likely not drop Lloris either despite his. Bissouma has more of a clear pathway to first team football than Spence but has found minutes hard to come by as well.
