Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Me.

I always wonder why we got rid of Marcus Edwards, while persevering with Winks, for 200 games, and what has happened to Spence suggests to me something needs to be done internally at THFC to make sure the kids with talent get in the team ahead of the 'nice kids' with parents who may play golf.

Spence is owed an apology for having his character assasinated via the media.
Me too. Only very stupid people or the type quick to focus on some peoples attitude can not see the implications of having an executive that has displayed horrific strategic decision making. And lousy personell management. I want us to be the best. making mistakes that's fine, but if you show no ability to learn from mistakes you've got no chance. Let's see if these people can learn and grow.

Winks contributed absolutely nothing to THFC.

We went backwards from the minute we replaced Wanyama and Dembele with Winks and Sissoko.

Edwards could have been integrated into that team and made a bigger contribution than Winks ever did.

That is what those stats tell me.

Levy was too busy juggling the finance with N'jie and N'koudou.

I understand your assertion that I am not comparing apples with apples.

That is fair.

My assertion is that Edwards was good enough for THFC and somehow we let him go and persevered with Winks.

Poch talked up both players.

Levy got a sell on clause on Edwards.

Edwards got tagged with the bad attitude label.
Don't disagree that we should have replaced Dembele sooner or that Winks could have been upgraded but he was a solid Prem player for a couple of years before obviously he became quite injury prone. Edwards has never really proved he's good enough which is why no teams from the 'big five' leagues took a punt on him when he was available.

It's obvious this is probably happening now and will happen again in the future under these clowns.

That is the point I am attempting to make.

Some can see it; others choose not to.

The Ange comments are particularly cringe.

Did he loan him out last season, agree a 8m euro option and not pick him for the europa league squad despite having 2 full backs because he rated him and always thought their was a player there? did he fuck.

He didnt rate him and eventually played him out of necessity due to injuries.
Or.

Someone else wanted Spence to be sold.

I'm not supprised certain people simply go along with the mob and don't question narratives, it explains why we are in the mess we are globally. But unlike the stupid, I bothered to find out for myself, I spoke to people at Nottingham Forest when he was there and repeated on this forum what I was told, he was not the individual the clueless were making him out to be.

Some of it is simply bigotry, we know who those ones are I have them blocked, but the reason it matters is that our club is not going to be throwing money around. We can't afford for players of Spences ability to be sidelined because they are simply introverts without borrish Alpha male personality traits .

We have to be smarter, more able, more creative and better at reaching all kinds of people or we will suffer. A completely unprecedented crisis saved this lads career at Spurs and it's that simple they can spin as much as the want in retrospect.

How many times have we let players go that are very good players, just because some dim wit thinks because they’ve not been man of the match on their debut they’re hopeless Spence had potential from the off and was dismissed we nearly lost Bale as well , idiots

Matt Wells was the only man who knew

The one man at Tottenham who always knew Djed Spence was perfect for Spurs’ system wasn’t even Ange Postecoglou

Djed Spence’s career revival at Tottenham Hotspur is one of the best stories to emerge from the 2024/2025 Premier League season.

Until the ongoing campaign, it seemed like Spence had made a blunder by signing for Tottenham in the first place.

Matt Wells always knew Tottenham star Djed Spence was perfect for Ange Postecoglou’s system

The former Nottingham Forest defender is impressing week in and week out in a Spurs strip, with Gary Lineker tipping Spence for an England call-up as well.

The 24-year-old is in the form of his life and not many English full-backs are in better form than him currently.

According to a report by Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold, it was Matt Wells who has been “championing” Spence since the summer as he always felt the versatile full-back was a perfect fit in Ange Postecoglou’s system.

Recently, Postecoglou admitted to testing Spence in order to determine whether he was ready to play for him and the report does mention that the former Celtic boss kept a close eye on him.

Furthermore, it has been claimed that Spence, who has been lauded by Dominic Solanke is a popular member of Tottenham’s squad as well.

Tough times don’t last, tough people do and the Spurs fan favourite is an embodiment of that being the case.

What people close to Djed Spence have said about his attitude at Tottenham

People close to Spence have revealed that in the past, his introverted character has meant others have got the impression that the player does not have the best attitude.

Journalist Jay Harris stated: I’ve spoken to people who know him quite well, and they’ve said that Spence is a bit introverted, and he can be quite aloof. And so there are times where people probably have misinterpreted that as him not caring or him having a bad attitude. But I think what we’re seeing before us now is a 24 year old who was a young boy.”

“He’s a young man now. Apparently during his time in Italy with Genoa, that was quite a powerful experience for him because Leeds didn’t work out for a number of different issues but mainly because he had quite a bad knee injury, which ruled him out.”

However, Spence decided to knuckle down and put the graft in upon his return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from his loan spell at Genoa.

“I think, for two and a half months, three months in total. So he’s gone from barely getting a game in the Championship to he played at the San Siro twice with Genoa. He played against Juventus away for Genoa. And so he’s returning to Spurs and he’s thinking, wow, if I want to kick on with my career at the highest level, I seriously need to knuckle down. He did that.”

Matt Wells, who could have replaced Postecoglou also deserves massive credit for always backing the talented Spence.
