The argument that you got to give a player time and not judge them on their first season is correct to a point. Equally, you can see pretty quickly with a player, when it’s just not there.

He is incredibly slow and can't cross the ball. He will never work as a wing-back. We paid £25m for someone who doesn't offer any more than Tanganga did at RB.

Conte has shown that you can convert players who are natural attackers (Moses, Perisic) to the wing-back position. But it doesn't seem to work for players who don't really have any attacking abilities.
