I never said Levy killed the FA cup in my opinion Ferguson and United hammered the final nail in when they pulled out of it for the club World Cup . My point was when we were winning it regularly it was only slightly less prestigious than the league . Regularly winning the FA cup at one time meant your club was competitive for a very valuable trophy . Virtually the whole country used to watch the build up from 9.00 am until a good hour post match it was that significant .

Therefore I am not inclined to let someone ( not you ) disparage those achievements on the basis of the FA cups Importance or lack thereof in 2025 . We were a more elite club at that time because of those victories than revisionism based on 2025 relevance of those trophies might lead some to believe . The same applies with the UEFA Cup and for that matter Cup Winners Cup. With only the league winners qualifying for the European Cup many of Europes now super elite clubs were involved . The only thing being that those now super elite clubs were nowhere near as far ahead of everyone else as they are today . Plus some clubs like Chelsea and City were a total irrelevance back then .

Sky and the CL should not be allowed to diminish the value of trophies earned long before they existed .

I agree and would never diminish our past success

We were dead last in Europe in wages to revenue ratio then too.

Deloitte has compiled those wages to revenue ratio figures for every season since 2017-18 and Spurs have been dead last every single time.

I'm sorry it's tiring to always have these kinds of claims thrown back in your and your fellow "I'm sick of all the Levy whining" poster's faces, but the reality is your entire line of argument ALWAYS, without fail, attempts to obfuscate and dance around the plain, objective facts of the matter.

For the sake of advancing the discussion though, I think it's worth noting what it would mean if we WEREN'T dead last in Europe in wages to revenue ratio, and those wages were going to bad players.

It would mean the thing that every Levybot craves: THAT THE FINGER SHOULD BE POINTED SOMEWHERE ELSE

Every manager and technical director that has ever worked under ENIC has been forced to work in unfair conditions with unreasonable expectations, which is the central, unavoidable truth beneath all of their failures.

Provide them with appropriate resources for the expectation level and that totally changes!
I never said we weren't last in wage:revenue then.

I said no one ever mentioned it. Search the forum - it wasn't discussed. Its only become a topic once the ENICout crowd had to give up the net spend line of argument.

Anyway, I don't really care - my point was simply that Levy isn't upping net spend to distract supporters from wage:revenue.

He. Doesn't. Think. About. You.

I am all for building a good young squad but we all know theres no success for us with this project yet again. We don't have the ambition to change things up and go big even for a few key areas.
TBF, the best team Tottenham has fielded in at least 40 years was built in this exact way - sell the experienced valuable players, buy young promising talent, hire a manager with a proven track record of developing young players and performing better than the cost of his squad in the PL.

I agree we need experience. But its not some insane idea to try and recreate the success from 2013-15 in squad building. The trouble is we're going to struggle to find another Kane, or another peak Dele for £5M.

Again, being dragged into an argument here I didn't really choose. Really just pointing out that Spurs market operations aren't some psy op to get fans onside.

Nah they’re just contrarians who get off on meaningless arguments.
Pretty sure most clubs are likely at it to attempt to push and manage fan sentiment.
I used to think that. But the evidence just mounts up.
It's like they're on autocue to respond any critical argument. I don't think some of them even support Spurs.
You guys should get yourselves over to Glory Glory...

I used to be sceptical, but some posters have to be in the pay of the club. HAVE to be.
There just can't be any other explanation for some of the shilling I keep reading in this thread on a daily basis.
It's absolutely brazen
