The hiring of Nuno was the perfect illustration of how little our executives know about football.

They sack Mourinho and say they want to return to the DNA of Tottenham, then 75 days later they hire Nuno. A manager who plays stodgy Portuguese hoofball. Then they give him a player like Bryan Gil. It’s total nonsense.

They hired Nuno because they made a complete mess of hiring a manager in the Summer, it wasn't by design - he was merely a placeholder.

Levy seems frightened of handing over too much control of the club to whoever becomes manager, this was one of the rumors for why Nagelsmann turned us down.

And while Levy clearly isn't a football guy I can on some level understand him being hesitant. We tried handing the keys over with both Poch, Jose and Conte. and Poch was the only one where it worked. And that was in the mythical triumvirate between Poch, Levy and Hitchen.

Maybe Jose could have worked if backed. But that's ancient history. And Conte clearly did not work and has most likely set us back technically on the field.

So yeah, I can on some level understand him not wanting to just hand the keys over to the new guy. But Levy isn't a football wizard either so he needs to be willing to compromise.

I guess the argument will be the season is not over, we will crack on in a couple of weeks . However for a sceptic , nay critic of Levy in me says this has all the signs of another Nuno type mismanaged process

It's the end of the road for Enic and Levy. They will bring the footballing side further down if they stay, won't be surprised to be another Southampton or a Leicester in the coming seasons. Just imagine Spurs without Kane, he can't play forever, max another 3-4 seasons at top level.

Replacing a placeholder with a placeholder? Wouldn’t it have been more logical to keep Mason in as he was already there? Plus , when it was clear that Nuno was totally out of his depth we wouldn’t have then gone back and thrown the kitchen sink at Conte , who already declined.

Nuno was a half arsed , panicked punt

The story I heard was that we were in talks with Conte the whole summer, but the entire board wasn't sold on the idea of giving over control of the footballing aspects of the club and didn't trust him.

Nuno it seems was a political appointment to 'sell' them the idea that we needed Conte. ie put in someone to fail to force the board to vote in favor of Conte.

Maybe I am wrong but I thought Nuno was the Paratici choice. We had Fonseca wrapped up but then hired Paratici who canned it as he didn’t want an attacking manager.

In effect we hired a DoF whose ideas went against the club but who got us some cheap deals in Bentancur and Kulusevski.

Who appointed Nuno? Surely it was the same person/people that appointed Conte?

Did only half the board approve the Nuno appointment?

What people need to consider with Kane (and to a lesser extent, Son) is that it isn’t just the contract situation that is a threat to these footballing assets. It’s also age and how they now start to recover from injuries and if old injuries catch up with them.

Both could sign new contracts and they would still be “problems” for us shortly, particularly with the lack of options available. Injuries that they used to recover from in 3 weeks becomes 5-8 etc.

Plenty of food for thought at Tottenham.

I think it was ,yup . He wasn’t a placeholder though , you don’t get an interim manager in who costs you £14 million to sack.

It was pretty clear to anyone that it wouldn’t last . It was a idiotic move.

Are you asking why this board didn't use logic? :D

Impressive strategy , let’s blow our toes off so we can buy kids size shoes

Next DoF needs to have a good vision that fits the manager and is long term. There is little alignment with us, all square pegs round holes.

Honestly I do wonder what on Earth they are talking about at board level. We are suppose to be a serious top club not a Mickey Mouse.
