That's not what Sherwood said tho. He just said that the DOF snaked off to the owner to put pressure on him to play Soldado.

A DOF model is like a manager only model, in that it will only ever be as good as the people doing the job. that anecdote, if it's true (Sherwood has probably added to that story over the years and Baldini isn't around to contest is he?) just furthers the idea that Levy isn't great at understanding what type of football people he needs around him.

Imagine being in a state as a Chairman where you have this clown Baldini and Tim fucking Sherwood as the people you need to base your decisions around?
It is what Sherwood said.

He said Levy called him into his office, Baldini was there, and they tell him they don't think Kane is "Champions League quality".

Ultimately, Sherwood faces them both down.

Again, Sherwood is a bit of a plank, but his judgement call on Harry Kane was absolutely correct.

But Levy didn't ask him not to Pick kane.

They questioned his judgement but it never went as far as telling him what team to pick.

It would be naive to think this type of conversation isn't normal at any club.

The big issue with this clip is that the club had Wally Baldini and Tim the Plank making football decisions for Daniel the penny pincher.

Here's what I wrote:

Taking the individual characters out, essentially we have an Owner saying to the Head Coach that he has reservations about playing an Academy product because he's not quite good enough. When the Head Coach queries the Owner's credentials for making this judgement, he defers to the DoF. It is then suggested by the DoF & Owner that a sale of the Academy player to Leicester may be a better route for the club.

So, ultimately, Levy & Baldini were strongly suggesting that Kane wasn't the right selection for the team or the club. When Sherwood made it clear he was picking Harry, Levy backed down, being unprepared to cross the line of explicitly telling the Head Coach who to pick.

Agree, that's what I heard him describe as well.

Still think convos like that happen in every club.

Even Pep at Man City if he benched Haaland for the CL final might get called into the office to explain why.. Football clubs are businesses.

The problem isn't that it happened, the problem is that Levy was basing his decisions on a combination of Baldnini and Sherwood.

Seems that now he even considers the player's leadership group as well.

Same story was given by Ramos, who had Berbs and Keane sold from under him and then was basically forced to give Darren Bent, another big money, pretty shite signing, a run in the team after he had a great preseason.
It's just disgraceful isn't it. Just one example in a long line of managers being shafted.
It's been going on for nearly a quarter of a century.
And people wonder why we never win anything under these con artists 🤷‍♂️

Sherwood clearly bigging himself up here but really this anecdote looks bad on Baldini not Levy.

If levy had told him not to pick Kane that's different but it would be naive to think a Chairman isn't asking the coach about big money signings not playing.

Flipside is that if players like Dier and Hoj have Levy's ear, does that explain what Conte was saying about the reasons we don't win? Maybe these players get themselves picked or at least kept at the club by the Chairman having their backs.

It’s so sad how many ex Spurs people go out of their way to speak negatively about the club.

What an absolute toxic creation from Levy/ENIC

I see the Leeds owner is getting strung out for attempting to take a bank loan out using Elland road as security to obtain it.

Is this any different to what ENIC are up to outside of football?
The only difference I can see, is that Radrizzani wants the loan to buy Sampdoria. If Sampdoria go pear shared and he can't pay up, it's Leeds that suffer. It seems people are upset that if 1 football team falters, another one suffers. But it barely crosses anyone's mind, that a non football venture could fail causing a football club to suffer.

Show me where we are leveraging WHL for loans for non THFC investments? You posted something that dated back to 2005 before but I would be surprised if it’s anything like what Leeds owner has done

the club is weak in its values from the top down. Someone needs to go in there and grab it by the scruff of the neck and take control.

People need to be treated with respect and professionalism, that doesn't mean being weak but getting the structure and lines of communications clear. They also need to value every single employee and acknowledge they are all part of the success and from the cleaners to the players.

We need to be involved with the community and charities, along with the dreams and aspirations of young academy players, offering alternative career options if football fails them.

There is so much we could, and should be doing that would change the internal vibe which ultimately filters out to the fans and community.

There should be annual BBQs for the families of the kitchen staff that the players all serve, showing their appreciation, reinforcing the fact they are not above anyone...

It's just not handled in the way it should.

If they had a plan and stuck to it, nobody would ever want to leave the club, or have a bad word to say about it. Whilst I appreciate this isn't a priority, it's actually a pretty major piece of the puzzle and shows how backwards we are at times.

The occasional 'community' tweet just doesn't cut it!

100%. Read about Firminos leaving speech and how he was amazed that all staff loved the club, all pulling in the same direction and want to win etc, and it blew his mind.

We don’t have that, staff are underpaid and disgruntled, and there is a lack of leadership from the top, and a culture of fear and deceit. Goes far beyond buying average players, this is a systematic cultural fuck up

Get them out

After 20 odd years they should know better by now and we should not be in this position with so little to show for it. Don't tell me we'd of been any worse off if we'd of stayed at white Hart Lane.

Who tells the DoF what to do?

🤔

Munn

Levy tells Munn what to do.

But DOF is more of a board member and takes care of negotiating deals. Reckon Munn will take more of that on.

What the club needs before a coach is a Sports Director that builds a team of scouts and the identity of the squad and idea of how the squad will play. Then they can get a coach that fits that.

If they sell a star player or a coach needs to leave, the Sports Director and his team of people then have a short list of people that fit the profile to replace them. A bit like Brighton right now.

At least that's the story from the outside.

Football is strange beast, lots of the incumbents have probably inherited positions way above their knowledge and ability, not through their fault but by mismanagement.

As a business and industry it has developed at an insane pace and we've just not kept up. It seems like only yesterday Arthur Daley could buy, own and run a club and in some cases that way of operating is still the undercurrent of some clubs.

If they took the blinkers off and acknowledged there are issues, in 3-5 years they could have a harmonious workforce. This would, and should filter through everything from the roars of the crowd, to the roots of the grass.
