what’s the benefit to Stavely’s benefactors in investing in us in a return for what? No power, no amount of ownership. No real say in the running of the club etc?

Surely it’d only be good for them if they make more money back out of us which I’m not sure exactly what JT and gang particularly want.
I think the general idea is that They get to switch / diversify away from dependency on oil money, which the world is generally supposedly steering away from. If they can build succesful sports brands then that's one avenue of revenue. You have to suspect that people believe the ESL will come into existence in some form at some pint, which could bring massive revenue streams.

One other way to increase revenues is by having a bigger following. The best way of achieving that is through having a successful team which brings glory hunters along with it. The reason you see Real and Barca shirts all over the globe is that they are massively successful on the pitch traditionally, and often have squads packed with top end names. That is the hope of poeple who would like to see a change of ownership generally I reckon.

Does seem like this is happening now, many won't be happy with oil money, whereas the current set up has, turned the club into a financial juggernaut that lacks sporting success.
Something has to give, after 23 years of nearly but not quite, maybe potential new investors could provide the spark for future glory.
The club has the best stadium and training ground in the country, it has everything it needs to be one of the best in Europe.
There hasn't been a winning culture from the top in nearly a quarter of a century, maybe that changes now exciting times.

Be careful what you wish for. Getting another interfering owner in football affairs. Whilst the decision to sack Managers has been taken by Levy it was at a time when the results were bad and fans unhappy. However wanting her own man as Manager is more in line with the appointment of Hoddle when ENIC arrived. Is the change of Manager a condition of the investment or will it be a power battle with Levy.
No idea if the Daily Mail are right regarding her intentions but a minority shareholder should have no say in football matters.

Mail are reporting the Sun. I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions as to how likely the story is to be true or accurate.

I’m sure new owners would have their thoughts on a new manager but Staverley won’t have any input into that as she’s won’t have anything to do with a new owner, she’s just the agent facilitating the deal.

Nobody's paying three quarters of a billion quid for a stake in a football club without having any kind of influence on football related decisions, mate.
A power struggle between Levy & the Minority interest could be destabilising. I thought you wanted ENIC out but this is far from that. Of course she will have her views but they should not be Public. Will Levy have to agree to install Howe for the deal to go through?

Oh it's definitely a step towards ENIC out. It's rumoured that the 12.5% will increment over a 7 year period leading to a full takeover. In all likelihood that would be accelerated once the new investors established themselves in the building.
You don't need to be some business guru to understand that, mate.

Nothing may come of this. But one things for sure, we're long overdue some success. And we ain't winning shit with ENIC.

i'm more hopeful than i've been in a long while

If there is any substance to this, Gooners and Chavs will be shitting their pants.

Let the good times roll

So you are happy to wait 7 years?

PSG are a busted flush since the super league collapsed. A winner in a one team league with no realistic chance of a champions league anytime soon. As for motives i dont know but i do know we need change. We cant carry on as we have been over the last 6 years. The prem gets more competitive year on year and we carry on as we are even 4th place will start to become a pipe dream.
Whether we think PSG have a chance to reach their goal of being France's version of Real Madrid, that's 100% the intent of the Qataris.

Do you think the Qataris would buy a small share of Spurs because they're bored with a flailing PSG and want sit in the board room to argue with Levy to change his MO operating the club? You think they enjoyed negotiating with Levy over transfers so much that they want to do it monthly?

I very much doubt that. I think if they were to invest it's because they want to cement a working relationship with the club and extract some contractual benefits for PSG.

They're not investing in a minority share of someone else's club so they can help that person reach their goals. That's not how this works.

Everything is there for this club to be a real success, that isn't happening with Enic.

Haven't they already said they want investment to help pay for the hotel /various infrastructure projects

Doubt any of it will go towards any activities related to kicking round inflated objects across a big patch of grass

I think levy did say that yes, but I think he tagged on at the end that it would also help us invest in the yep squads (men/womens)

Nothing would be different, not until enic is bought out completely

It will only accelerate if Levy agrees and we all know how difficult he can be. Until we know the detail we do not know if this investment will be a good thing. What money is available for players transfers and wages within the Fair Play rules. I am pretty neutral on ENIC/Levy and consider they have done good and bad. However I do not want a minority Investor interfering with player affairs.

Real question - what do you think would change if the Qataris were to buy a minority stake in Spurs?

They bought a 22% stake in Braga who are 6th in Portugal. Before the Qatari investment they typically finished 3rd or 4th and since the Qatari investment they've finished 4th, 3rd, 4th.

I also think there's only a small stake available. Lewis can only sell about 9% of the club without losing full control, and I doubt Levy is selling anything. Possible that Lewis will sell more, as long as ENIC retains majority control, but that opens him up to be snaked by Levy throwing in with the other minority investors. I feel it's unlikely that would happen, but equally unlikely that Lewis would risk it.

I think QSI would buy a minority share for the right of first refusal on any players we develop that PSG desires and use us as a place to park some players/debt to stay on the right side of FFP. Can't see it being a benefit to us, honestly.

I would very much doubt if its just Levy or Lewis selling a part of their shares - all the noise has been about increasing the capital base of Spurs which would mean new shares being issued (plus possibly a small sell off by Lewis/Levy if they need cash).

Likely it would be for commercial projects (eg property development around the stadium) plus a slug into a player acquisition fund.

What's doing the rounds is £600m or £700m for a 12.5% share which would give Spurs a value of £4.8 bn or £5.6 bn - which I doubt, its just too large. But if the money is split half as share capital and half as loans (or indeed some sort of convertible) it makes more sense giving Spurs a value of £2.4 bn to £2.9 bn.

Whether its actually happening or not - who knows

Incidentally, Lewis getting older has meant big changes in his 'master company' senior management - his daughter Vivienne Lewis used to be CEO , but now they have a joint CEO one of whom is Daniel's son Josh Levy with Vivienne now at a lower level as a 'Senior Managing Director' as seen on the Tavistock website

So times are changing at Tavistock, but its interesting that the Levy family has more control there than it ever had before. And the one time rumours of Lewis and Levy falling out seem to have been disproved

How precisely this impacts on Spurs its difficult to say but Spurs must be a sizeable part of Tavistock's value (Joe's stake sems to be held through Tavistock).

OK. You're entitled to your opinion.

But I take a different view.

I'm not neutral on ENIC, as they've clearly shown sporting success is unimportant to them. They openly stated they only got involved to exploit football's global popularity when they purchased the club and I despise the cunts and everything they represent

If a minority investment with a view to a full takeover involves interfering with team affairs then they can interfere away as far as I'm concerned because the alternative....25 more years of ENIC, magnolia paint, and watching our rivals clean up the silverware and take the fucking piss......is and should be unpalatable to any Spurs fan who wants to see us win.

I’m not taking that as good news for those of us who want rid of them. If anything it looks like Levy being given more power. Let’s not forget Levy could be a beneficiary of the Trust set up by Lewis (the spurs website says members of the Lewis family are potential beneficiaries) but of course it could also include Levy, they might have just not mentioned it for fear of the reaction.
