I think the point is that's the reason he's involved in football altogether.
It’s been pretty well documented that he’s been going to Spurs for a long time before he was part of the takeover. It reads as there was no passion for Rangers (why would there be? Arseholes to a man) and the writer then added his wee bit about not being interested for no real reason.
Most people will read into it what they want, to support their agenda. And I’m probably doing just that. But I’m struggling to see any other meaning.
Clearly got his eye on some piece of ass somewhere out of camera shot

It actually reads ''there is no passion here'' the rest after goes onto a notion about Lewis and Levy not being particularly keen on football, seems to be the perspective of the author and not part of an actual Levy quote, Until the quotation marks appear again stating ''this is purely financial'' they then appear again ''we chose football'' Levy explained ''because it's the most popular sport on earth and the biggest money spinner''.
I don't think we should just be dismissing the excerpts in quotation marks just because the author seems to have knitted them together. and added his/her own assumptions to fit the perception highlighting the business opportunities within football. Which seems to be the point of the piece.

Not dismissing them at all. I’d suggest since the article is about Rangers, the “no passion here” quote is about Rangers. It’s certainly not about us, as it was before their ownership here. Again, their purchase of Rangers was “purely financial”.
It’s clear as day to almost everyone that this has nothing to do with Spurs, or with Levy’s motivation for owning us.
ENIC’s motivation, and that of Uncle Joe, is almost certainly financial. Investment Company makes that obvious.
As always, lots of shit can be laid at Levy’s feet, but this one should die a dignified death. But it won’t.
I don't see why we can't make a small leap and suggest that some of the business talk in that article is also applicable to Spurs. Bearing in mind that Levy has made himself the highest paid chairman in the Premier League, and ENIC whilst not investing much of their own wealth in the football side of things, ie the squad, are creating lots of business opportunities around the club, and charge high ticket prices etc etc.... it does seem as though they are using the sport as a money spinner as stated in the article, Even though Levy goes to matches and supports the team by attending matches. He can do both, ie support and use the club for making money, and does IMO.

But this article had nothing to do with that and has no place on a Spurs forum. General Football section maybe.
But as I said, we’ll all read into what’s written what we want to.
I think it's relative to know what Levy thinks of the sport even when discussing a different club, and wonder if any of that is being carried into his machinations with our club.
It's a little like if you go to a new job interview they want to know what you were doing and thinking of your previous job, because the new employer thinks behaviours will be carried through from one job to another.
Seems you've decided all this starts and stops with Glasgow Rangers. Well that's up to you, but you can be sure other supporters that have read the article see the Spurs version of Levy now, as he was then.
Levy was said to be a season ticket holder before ENIC bought in. He is seen at many matches and has no reason to go unless he actually enjoys it although there could not have been much enjoyment last season with all the Levy out chants. Lewis on the other hand is rarely seen and clearly no supporter.Nah. He's no Woolwich fan. He's no Spurs fan either.

If you want to extrapolate that to other clubs, thirty years later, that’s all good. Once again, we will all read into this what we want to.

Yes, about 4 years before Levy/ENIC arrived at Spurs. My points on the matter weren't only relevant for 2025. I assume after reading that article that they came to Spurs with a similar model in mind in 2001.
TBF Lewis is 88 and, I suspect, needs to be out of the UK for a certain amount of time to not get bent over for taxes.
I suspect he isn't that arsed about going to games, but I suspect a lot of season ticket holders over 70 would rather be in barbados with a billion pounds if they could choose
My view is that Joe Lewis isn't interested in funding the rebuilt of spurs to the top of the pyramid, and never was.
I also hold the view that there was an ulterior motive for DL, and probably some convincing manipulation to put all their eggs in one basket - including telling JL that buying out Sugar was so totally about making some cash in the PL, and just totally coincidental that it was their local team. "No, I'm not emotionally motivated Joe - it's just for the money".
Kind of tactic I choose when I'm trying to convince the Mrs that a hot-tub is a good investment, as we only need to fill it up once instead of a bath that we have to empty each time
