Staveley's crew I can definitely see coming back into talks.

Hell. They aren't blocked to talk, just from bidding for the next six (five now?) months.

I think the first was a fishing trip and they will come back with a proper offer then. One would assume she will be representing actual people wanting to buy the club. I suspect it will happen at the worst moment and derail part of our season, as is the Spurs way.

When THFC are consistently losing and drawing at home to the likes of Wolves and Bournemouth I feel sad.

It's no disrespect to those teams, but it is a waste of resources from the club I'm a fan of.

How many chances have we squandered to go toe to toe with the likes of Liverpool and FSG since the CL final?

In what way, though? In spending? Over the past 5 years we spent the 4th-most on players in the whole league, and certainly far more than FSG at Liverpool did. What fans were demanding, the chairman actually went ahead and did.

But, the question I really have is: why do people want that approach so badly?

It sometimes boggles me that everyone seems to forget that Liverpool's platform for success was finding value for money in players that the richest clubs were overlooking. Salah, Firmino, Mane, Lallana, Wijnaldum etc were all less than 40m, some less than 30m. Andy Robertson was less than 8m, and they picked up Milner on a free.

Our platform for success was similar, in fact. We picked up Dembele, Lloris and Vertonghen in the same season for a combined 40m, Eriksen was 12m, Dele Alli and Kyle Walker barely cost us 5m each. Luka Modric was a cool 20m back in 2009, but even better was picking up Bale for 13m the year before. Sonny was 26m, Toby cost 14, and even Trippier came for like 4m. Sissoko, Moura, Sanchez all arrived later on for between 25m-40m, and these players are what took us to the most prestigious match in club football.

If we've squandered anything, I'd say it's because we then started to 'spend big', and have in a lot of cases wasted our money. We also didn't have coaches after Poch who knew how to build a team or grow the players we brought through the door.

I'd rather the ownership get back to trying to unearth gems, personally, and building a team over multiple seasons of transfer strategy, although I won't say no to a marquee signing or two if that's what Frank needs to get to the next level. But trying to compete with the big boys has backfired, and they can afford to take the loss on flops far better than we can. Again, Liverpool only spent big on Allisson and VVD after their platform was built, and 4 or 5 years into Klopp's project, to fill specific holes in their squad.

Frank needs time, and great players with potential waiting to be unearthed. I think we've got a few of those, again.

So far I'm getting the impression that Levy was given the remit to find investment and/or buyers (we heard as much about the former early on in the summer), but weirdly enough it seems like the Lewis Family have moved to stop all of that.

Makes you wonder if it is a family squabble of some sorts. Very strange 180 otherwise.

I suspect that either Joe Lewis isn't calling the shots anymore and the children want to have an actual go at it, or else there's a price in mind but they've exhausted the pool of likely buyers and the firm response has been the price can't be justified without more regular success and trophies.

Or some combination of the above.

Joe Lewis had to take a step back, especially after the court case recently, insider trading I believe.

It's widely known the Lewis kids and lots of the family are Spurs fans.

Like you say it's probably a combination of the above. But something tells me that the genuinely want to win things.

Levy was probably told to say, we want to win the PL and CL. Then got unceremoniously sacked.

I think the writing had been on the wall, for months.

Known... by whom? Is this reported somewhere, or just your intuition talking?

For once I agree with you. Last season was very likely a Panic Stations moment with our free fall down the table into a relegation scrap for the first time since the late 90s. The whole post-Poch era has been a pretty big wobble from the upwards trajectory of 2001 to 2020, but so long as we were staying in touching distance of the bigger money supplies I'm sure the ownership weren't too concerned.

Start coming 17th, and I'm just as sure they'll take notice.

For as much as I'm labeled a 'Levy fanboi' by yourself, I actually felt that perhaps the time was right for a change after all. 24 years is a long time, and we might do well from a new direction.

Still not sure why we have any reason to believe there will be one, though. ENIC seemed pretty happy with the approach until last year...

I do wonder if levy was turning it into levy fc
While he done many good things for the club
And it was either his way or the highway
And some at the club had simply had enough and decided enough as enough

In all seriousness, my theory appears to have been 100% correct.

For a long time, I pontificated that JT was, in fact, a, and possibly the only, Levy plant.

What more cunning a plan than to get someone to be so annoying about him that it would literally turn people to supporting him out of spite? I am almost certain the bulk of the Levy in votes was done for that very reason - I know mine was.

And now, no Levy, no JT.

Even if he were to come back right now and start posting again, I would still have a hard time believing anything other than the above.

SO wherever you are, mate, whatever holiday you are on this time, I hope you and the Bald man are ok. He is, I'm sure, proud of you for the work you put in and for the number of people you personally drove into his short arms
