It's almost like coaching by far the biggest club in a poor standard league (so poor they're likely joining with a neighbouring country soon) is pretty easy and a poor general indicator of their potential for success in other far more competitive leagues.

I prefer someone who has proved themselves on a lesser budget.
Poch was a genius and got the defence right, without playing 7 defenders.
Potter or Rodgers were the obvious choices.
If you take someone from abroad, you take a chance but he can't be worse than Nuno !

If only it was that simple.

But as mentioned ETH has done well at other clubs and then Ajax. At a time when clubs like Chavski, Citeh, Barca, Liverwank, Real etc are miles ahead of the normal clubs, Ten Hag has made Ajax compete with big clubs.

Yes he has been helped by having talents like De Ligt, Onana, De Jong etc. But this guy takes players, finds the right formation, plays them to their strengths and makes a better club.

At present no manager is going to succeed at Spurs due to the boardroom interfering and the politics at the club, but the best option is an adaptable manager who has more than one system in his head and can switch between systems.

Notice the way ETH can switch his defence around depending on the opposition. We've a manager who plays defenders based on a lucky dip.

For all his faults, ETH has some major, major pluses.

He's not an ex-Chavs manager and he's not Portugese.
Yeah and that tactically flexible player improving not Portugese coach is.....Marcelo Gallardo.

They are not by far the biggest club, since van Gaal left and prior to ETH first full season at Ajax, PSV had won the league 10 of the 21 seasons, where as Ajax had won 7.

Also, in those 21 seasons, there have been 5 different winners, not far off the PL's 6 in the same time frame.

Yes, the league is poor, but look how he has them punching above their weight in the Champions league. His worse season the in the CL, his team did as well as de Boer's Ajax did in their best season.

Have a look at their squad, Gravenberch and Onana (currently on a 9 month ban) are the only players I would take for our squad.

All good until the last line.

Schuurs, Timber, Alvarez and Tagliafico would all get in our squad and would be first team regulars.

Of course Ajax is the biggest club in the Netherlands, but for various reasons it's not that simple to always win the league (for instance because PSV will usually also win the far too big amount of 'small games' that Ajax wins, so the gap will never be too big). Still 35 League titles and 6 European trophees is something the other teams can only dream of.

After his experience with Levy this summer I doubt very much he'll even answer any call from Levy again...
Besides, how things are working out at Ajax this season he wouldn't come anyway.

I'd take his half brother Five Hag right now. Just someone, anyone, who will actually motivate the players and get them trying to play a bit.
