I'm honestly inclined to not get too worked up about any of this as it does seem like the rumour mill is at stupid levels of overdrive. But Fonseca's wife said she was looking forward to the new move the other day and then all this happens, so there's likely more than a grain of truth to it all.

We were all looking forward to her too. :)

I think some of the rumours are there mostly because we’re not getting anything concrete from the club, no direction . Levy claims to love the club& is one of us but leaving a vacuum of information is always going to cause speculation.

I don’t believe the Gatusso rumour at all. I feel it was just Mendes doing what he does.

For me personally, I have next to no faith in whatever Levy does. Last time we had a DoF it was a disaster. Levy has a tendency to repeat his mistakes, can’t help but interfere . DoF’s for him are nothing but firewalls to pass the blame onto. We all know how this story goes , you could almost set your clock by it.

So you want Levy running the football side of the club?

We've NEVER had a DoF to oversee and have the responsibility of the Football side of things. They have all had specifically defined roles mainly around recruitment (purchase and sale) and scouting.

Bit of an oxymoron analogy you've made their if I may be so bold as to point out. Whoever the DoF is, if he turns out to be shit, then it is Levy's fault, you've just correctly affirmed this. It's his responsibility and will be judged accordingly on this hire.

But right now, we have or officially about to have (not until 1.7.21) a DOF to oversee EVERYTHING to do with Football. The responsibility is HIS and his alone, this is what we've all be crying out for ages! His remit is far-reaching, many of the things he will do will be unseen and probably never discussed unless they are positive.

It would be really refreshing to have him have run a few press confs on his own to talk about what his plans are, so we can manage how well he's doing. I've seen several DoF's do this in Spain and Italy previously but for whatever reason, in England, there's always a complete media blackout surrounding their work.

But the reality is, there will be no debating whether it was the Coach's hire to bring in player 'x', 'y' or 'z'. There will be no debating whose fault it is that sold Jonny to Juve and then they become a world superstar. There will be no debating why the academy is not producing talented footballers that make it to the first team or generate great income for the club.

You're right, there will be no debate.

If it all goes pear shaped, it will be Levy's fault, because he hired the guy.

If it goes well all the credit will go to Paratici.

For the first time ever accountability that can't be diluted into "transfer comity" or "manager didn't want him, not his hire". (internally there will be arguments and disagreements on players, decisions on x, y, z this is normal, it's not a dictatorship but the accountability is 100% crystal clear).

So if Paratici wants the team to play with a 3 man defence there is a bloke managing Belgium who does that.

It was actually a cause for optimism until the penny dropped that a shit DOF had been given the job.

As long as Levy is held fully accountable if it all goes pear shaped then we have nothing to lose by having him here.

But we know Levy will not be held accountable based on what's happened in the past so it's a mute point really.

He is accountable.

It's just you think this means he should sack himself, that will not happen. I own a company, I'm fully accountable, I make mistakes, I don't sack myself because I own the company.

I think he should resign is what I think because he's no better than a gooner in my eyes.

He is accountable to Lewis and the shareholders, but he is a significant % holder himself.

If that 'mix' conclude he's lost his way he likely will stand down, but he'll only be replaced with someone who represents the same model/ethos.

.... Or if he thinks his own efforts can be improved upon, the most likely scenario is he'll hand over footballing operations which seemingly is in the process of happening.

I do agree, whomever replaces him would be working under the same model, the ideal would be that ENIC finds the club profits unsustainable and sells up to someone but in order for that to happen a mass initiative would have to take place where people refuse to spend money on the club.

If however this DOF fails then he needs to be held fully accountable imo for hiring him, at the end of the day, the way I see it is, everybody BUT Levy continues to be punished for the mistakes being made.

I feel it's only fair that any further missteps from now drops on the chairman's shoulders. I am not going to excuse him anymore, that ended after the ESL debacle for me.

Well what do you propose happen then? Levy continues to operate the way he is doing now?

It's unacceptable that he continues to operate how he wishes with no accountability.
To acknowledge that mistake (or acknowledge an individual weakness within a skillset) has been made and do something about it.

That's been done. We now have a DoF.

Anyone who thinks you can out an owner is wasting their time. Focus on the individual problems and demand change around those.

He is completely accountable. You are confusing accountability and leaving. AIn't gonna happen, has never happened.

Emotionally speaking you're right; but pragmatically, my prior post still applies to that scenario.

As for ENIC selling; they're in it for the long game (which is why - despite the conspiracy theories - they don't take profit out of the club).... They'll sell either a) when they find a buyer that meets the price they envisaged when they started this project or b) if revenue streams significantly collapse.

I wanted a DOF to take over football decisions but hiring a crap DOF who doesn't fit our club at all makes no sense.

I wasn't so desperate that I need to support someone who is a terrible fit just because Levy gave him the title of DOF.

If it all goes well then levy gets a little bit of credit for finally appointing a dof and getting out of the picture. If it goes shit while we try to win the netspend trophy, then its levys fault 100%.
