Management Fabio Paratici

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I can't say he's been a success at Spurs but he certainly was not at all "dogshit" at Juve. During the time he spent at Juve - from 2010 to 2021 - they won 19 titles, 9 consecutive Seri A titles, and reached the CL final 2 times. And Paratici was vital in building Juve's squad that time. After he left Juve they haven't won any Seri A titles.
Marotta was the guy who built that successful Juve team, really. He was in charge until late 2018 then fell out with the board over the signing of Ronaldo and left. Paratici was largely behind the Ronaldo deal, which, while huge commercially kinda destabilised the club and was the catalyst for their fall-off over the following years.

Once Paratici took over he signed Ramsay on absolutely absurd wages - one of the worst Juve transfers in history, did that insane dodgy trade deal with Barca where they signed Artur Melo for 80m euros and sold them Pjanic, and just generally screwed them financially since all the money had to go towards Ronaldo's salary. It's no coincidence Juve completely fell off in 20/21 and haven't won a title since.

Paratici was good at Juve at picking out players, making deals, and whatnot (the same stuff he's been good at here). Once you actually put him in charge and have him choose managers & ask him to build a balanced long term squad it all goes to shit.

Pure speculation, but if Paratici's deal was done in the background and he was lined up as our new DoF (and had been working as a consultant throughout) surely Frank's more likely to be his man? Why would we give Lange the power to pick a manager then immediately make him less influential on first team transfers? Makes no sense.

Pretty sure I've heard rumblings that Paratici was a big Frank fan anyway. Would make a lot of sense as it's basically the exact same mistake we made with Nuno all over again. Paratici's got contacts and a decent eye for a player but is shite at picking managers and seems equally wank at actually constructing a functional squad.

As for Lange, I think we need to bin him off. Would be farical to give him the main DoF job again after we'd sidelined him for Paratici. Ultimately these guys are both a hangover from the Levy era and, while Vinai and the new board are somewhat complicit in their appointments, they'd be much better off getting their own guy in and starting again.

Wouldn't be surprised if this Fiorentina thing is largely engineered by Paratici himself so he can parachute out of Spurs before the shit hits the fan with Frank. If anything is a gift both financially and politically as it gives everyone an easy out and an excuse to refresh the DoF role.

Yeah what you say makes sense and could be close to the truth. If Paratici is leaving so soon, it obviously means he’s either not happy or he feels the writing is on the wall for him and is jumping before he’s pushed.

The questions which none of us seem to know the answer to, was Levy sacked without warning or did he know his time was up? How much input did Levy and Paratici have with the appointment of Frank? Was he mostly their pick? He must have been their pick if Levy wasn’t expecting to leave. But if Levy knew he was on the way out, why was Paratici brought in? The very fact that we honoured Paratici’s appointment because it would have cost the club more to cancel the contract, lends credence to the theory that Levy was indeed sacked by surprise. Hence why Levy had offered Paratici a role in his new setup, and with Levy gone and FP following him a matter of months later, this all suggests that we are indeed cleaning out the club of Levy’s people.

Now we just need Lange out too and hopefully a new Sporting Director brought in, a new identity established and Frank to be replaced.

I think this all lends itself to the strong possibility that Frank is also on borrowed time. I think the Lewis’s will dispense with him imminently if results don’t improve or at the end of the season at the latest, and they’ll want their own manager in.

Paratici definitely was but I also think Frank was a Levy hire because it would have been impossible for the Lewis’s to be too involved with the manager selection whilst Levy was still at the club. I think the comms that Vinai put out about the Lewis’s being firmly behind Franks appointment was just PR spin to steady the ship after such a drastic executive change.

Let’s hope anyway. The worst thing we could do would be to double down on Lange and Frank.

Well all the journos reported that it was a shock to Levy. He thought it was a routine meeting on the morning they stuck the knife in. And if you think about it, this makes perfect sense. If it was pre-agreed do you think Levy would've been happily having chats about wine with Vinai and talking about the future of the club with Neville over the summer? Getting deeply involved in every transfer deal? No chance. Plus he would've wanted to make a huge song and dance about his departure and have the final word - club statements and messages to the fans, etc. Instead we got nothing. The only logical explanation is that Levy was ambushed and kicked out of the club with no warning.

That said, Levy must've at least known he was under pressure with the internal review and restructuring going on. I reckon the Lewis' looked at the review at the end of last season and decided to bin Levy off, but felt it was still worth keeping him in charge to manage the summer window and the transition to a new manager, albeit on a tighter leash. It was notable, for the first time ever, the club announced sacking Ange was a "collective decision" by the board - I don't think we ever used that wording before? Even with Levy still technically at the helm, I think that was a sign the power balance was shifting.

I reckon all the decisions made, from appointing Frank, bringing back Paratici, the dual DoFs, the approach to transfers, were made collectively by Levy, and Vinai, with the latter representing the board. And no doubt with Paratici in their ears throughout giving his input on the footballing side. Levy probably had his return lined up for ages and Vinai/the board felt it was a simple soltution. After all, Paratici knew the club inside out and seemed to have done a fairly decent job at least on the player recruitment side.

Back to the present day, if Paratici really was heavily behind hiring Frank then yes, him jumping ship makes a lot of sense. Then if the whole Frank thing does implode over the coming weeks/months, the board and Vinai can pin the blame on Paratici and Levy then look to fully rebrand under a new DoF. Also makes it easy to kick out Lange as part of the process too.

We’ll never know what really went on (guess there’s huge NDA’s in place). The constant shuffling around and the sudden exit of Levy does make me wonder if the Lewis’ are actually even less competent but thought it would be easy by bringing in ‘running-football-club’ talent.

Giuseppe Marotta was the mastermind behind that Juventus period. That’s why he left for Inter and did the same with them. Without the guidance of Marotta post 2018 Paratici destroyed that club. That’s why he’s going to Fiorentina.

Yeah I agree. The interview with Neville was not of a man who was leaving anytime soon. Unfortunately we were stuck with Levy and I genuinely think he would have only left the club in a coffin. He was a complete control freak and he would never have relinquished control voluntarily.

I guess the next question then is, who was really behind Franks appointment? Paratici was Levy's hire 100%. Frank was pushed forward by Lange, he was definitely Lange's pick. Levy, Vinai and the board agreed.

If I am totally fair, whllst Frank wasn't on my shortlist, I can see the logic in why they thought Frank would be a good hire as a manager in the summer. They probably thought, a PL proven manager, ready to stake the next step up, he's affable, very solid reputation, but he's just completely underwhelmed.

I think everyone is really shocked at how bad Frank has been. He's just not got the players firing at all.

Not sorry to see him go, we need root and branch change but this just reiterates what a mess we are. Hire him, sack him because he's dodgy, keep him on as a consultant, re hire him as DoF after months of speculation, buggers off after 2 months.
Without sounding wise after the event, I thought he was a crook anyway .. always felt dodgy welcoming him back (and keeping ties with him) while he was banned for what he did...
Then again, Uncle Joe is hardly a Saint, is he?

Shit, maybe WE ARE THE BAD GUYS and Woolwich are doing everything right, a d justly reaping their rewards!
DAMMIT!!!
What's that in Latin?

Would be a lot more appropriate for the club motto than "To Dare is to Do" these days.
Stulti Nunc Videmur!

I was told Lange and Frank are tight as it gets and he was personally balls deep with Levy on delivering Frank and all his team.which shows you the level of mess we have behind the scenes. Same person told me the Ange tactical conversations. So who the hell knows but this guy has never blatantly told me BS.

If he was as useless as you think he is he would not have lasted for 11 years at Juve during the peak of their history. They have no problem with discarding people they see as surplus.
At the end of his time Juve, yes, he messed up a bit but he was not alone about signing Cristiano Ronaldo (who, according to Buffon, destroyed the DNA at juve).
I have mixed feelings about the job he's done at Spurs but that doesn't mean he was "dogshit" at Juve.

There does seem to be ongoing reviews even being undertaken now. Whilst we need rid of levy’s stench we need to make sure decent people aren’t let go. However by the sounds of article in the Athletic and by Matt Law mos tpeople have been delighted to leave the club and levy.

It very much appears that Beppe Morata was the the brains and Paratici’s success was working under him. When Paratici stabbed him in the back on the Ronaldo deal and took over as DOF, was when Juve went from 7 times champions to also rans, almost bankrupt.

Meanwhile Morata moved to Inter, rebuilt them, who became champions.

Interesting. Well hopefully that encourages the board to kick out Lange if/when Frank goes.

So, you wait years for his ban to end, then appoint him to joint DOF and then within 3 months of that, either you or he decides that this wasn’t the right decision to bring him back ???

Not a good look for Vinai and the Lewis family. They need to get the next DoF right. They badly need to get it right
