Middlesbrough vs Steaua Bucharest - 2nd Leg - UEFA CUP

Boro lost the first leg 1-0... and where 2-0 on the night (3-0) aggregate. That was when I put a £5 on them to go on to get the four goals they needed to go through. Boro had also needed 4 goals in the previous UEFA cup game to go through, and they managed it. Three of us in the pub all thought it would make the second half a bit more interesting and Boro looked lively. By the time the fourth and final goal went in injury time half the pub was sitting around watching - supporting us more than caring about the game.

Odds were 18/1... kinda wish i put more than a fiver on... like one of my mates who after the fiver at the bookies, checked his phone account to see what he had left in there... think he put £25 on in total.

Ladbrokes double checked all our tickets in disbelief the next day

My favourite one was a mates not mine. After our sunday league match we always go same pub, then ladbrokes and bet on whatever sky matches are on and carry on drinking. This particular sunday was the Carling Cup Final between the Cunts and Birmingham. We looked at the scorecasts on the back of the match betting. My mate said who you reckon, I mentioned Woolwich can't deal with a strong striker. He then thought quid on Zigic 2-1. When Martins goal from that flap wen't in the scenes in the pub was mental. The pub being run by a gooner made it even more special. Was a magic night. It was 150/1, he bought a round as a celebration.

World Cup 2010 second round accumulator on all eight matches. £10 on that returned a lot of money, and it was complete luck because I misclicked the Paraguay Japan result. i meant to go for a PAR win, but obviously it went to pens so counts a sa s draw.

That was amazing. I also took BAE to score at anytime vs. Liverpool 09/10. Amazing stuff. Every so often I put a quid on him at 50/1 to score first.

I had a cracker yesterday, I once had a free £10 bet that I used on 'Defoe 1st goal and Spurs win 2-0 @ 33/1' when we was away to Portsmouth on the opening day quite a few years ago, that came off well.

A few years ago I'd have won just over a grand, if it wasn't for a Michael Owen goal for Man Yoo in abt the 96th minute.

Mate gave me a quid on saturday for driving him to watch the Spain game in pub, put Lampard first, 12-1. hehe

Then tonight had a quid on Barry at Ladbrokes.com 25-1. When it went in I took my shirt off and danced around the living room... then the knobs at ITV said it was down as an own goal. Yet Ladbrokes gave me 26 quid back, which I withdrew into my bank. Eat that dubious goals panel.

We played Southend a few years back in the FA Cup 3rd or 4th round.

Had a couple of quid on 3-1 and Keane to score first that day. Ching ching.

Oh, and the fiver I had on Crouch to score first, AC Milan away. Went mental in the pub and then realised i'd won £40 as well.

non football but a few years back I played a lot of poker and the group of people I played with liked a prop bet or two. We'd bet on everything and anything and there were some very surreal ones but my favourite was winning £500 at the end of a very late night in a casino playing high card wins. We had originally started off at £10 each time and that then got out of hand. Since those heady days of excitement I've had to grow up and start paying bills etc so now I limit my betting to the odd sports bet (which I nearly always lose)

I had £5 on Darren Bent 1st scorer when it hit the beachball and went in. The next week I stuck a tenner on him and won. I end up sticking £20 on him first scorer every game and over xmas he won me over £300 quid in three days (Boxing Day game and two days later). He paid for my flights and accomodation in Orlando last April

We were at the Grand National a few years back. Having been on the pop since about 08:30 it came to the penultimate race and we all decided to chip in and back a horse.

One of the lads stumbled up to stick our money on and blurted out '£50 on horse number 4...'. The woman on the Tote had to point out that the race had just started and it would have to be number 4 in the last race.

'You twat', we all said.

When horse number 4 romped home in the last suddenly all that was forgotten as we had £600 to piss away between us in Scouse land that night.

I don't remember much apart from 2 lapdancers and them giving 3 of us permission to 'do what we wanted' in a private booth. :shades:

A couple of memorable ones:
I used to manage to get bets on down the local greyhound track when i was 13... but only if i got this one old half-blind and partially deaf cashier on the tote. One day nailed my biggest reverse forecast (paying around 30/1) , only to find she'd not heard correct and stuck it down as a straight forecast and of course the two dogs had come in the other way round. Could hardly argue it being 5 years too young to place a bet. FML

Made a good wedge on Betfair in the early days and had plenty of memorable moments on there. One which springs to mind was the early incarnation of the Darts Premier League circa 2005. Matches were best of 12 and in one non-descript match i'd traded the in-running market well and stood to win over £100 on a certain P Taylor with his opponent and the draw being slight winners for me too. Taylor was 5-4 up and I was happy with my evenings work. But as soon as he nailed the double to lead 6-4, someone requested five figures at 1.01 (1/100) on a Taylor win (thinking he'd already done enough and trying to hoover up free money). I was sharp enough to lay around £10000 of it, meaning Taylor was now +£2 for me, the Draw was a £10000 win and his opponent was £10000 too. As soon as the dust settled, i worked out how much to trade back so that both Taylor and the Draw would net me a few thousand regardless... and then some nobber at Betfair suspended the market, probably also thinking the match was over. The match went 6-5 before Taylor rattled through the last leg for my £2 profit or whatever. The market never re-opened to cash in on my 'good fortune'.

Just thought of another memorable punting experience - football related.

Next Manager Market a number of years back for Portsmouth FC. The Southampton manager - a dude called Harry Redknapp (whatever happened to him?) - was in the market on Betfair and denying that he'd ever return to the club he'd departed from so acrimoniously a year earlier. It was unthinkable. But people kept backing him and once he got to odds-on i couldnt help but oppose them. For a lot of money. And still they kept backing him until it became clear that it could happen. Luckily his many media soundbites over those few days moved the market enough to enable me to get out with a big loss rather than a gigantic one.

Not a bet, but my favourite poker success was finishing 5th out of over 4000 to turn $1 in to $380... Two nights later in the same tournament I finished 9th.

Used the money for a flight to Vancouver
