Sort of but I feel like in this case his option to buy didn't help the situation. Could have been a decent squad player but it was pretty obvious from early on he wasn't going to be worth the £43million option to buy. Once you know the club wont keep him, there's not really an incentive to try to develop him over an academy player so he's not really worth a squad space.This is why all transfers should be conducted as "try before you buy "
