I'm starting tor think that Gio is going to be a classic case of good player, just not premier League good.

It happens, it just sucks that it seems to keep happening to us though. Who was the last decent player we bought directly from a foreign team? Eriksen? Son?

Technically Toby. He'd spent a season at Southampton but we did buy him from Atletico. Son needed a season to adapt.

I am not writing of Gio yet. He has a lot of upside and I hop that he will thrive under the new manager.

Would keep him as squad player as he’s obviously better than winks, sissoko and Dele. But in an ideal world would sign another creative AM/CM who can offer us more than Lo Celso. He carries the ball well but everything else about him is very average. Doesn’t have that killer pass and isn’t going to get a bag of goals from midfield.

GLC is one of the players who can hold their heads high in this chaos. He is criticised for losing possession but that is because he tries to beat people or try a pass to cut through their defences . One to keep !

Hold his head high, for what, bang average performances?! Just because we have some worse players than him that offer even less doesn't mean he should get a pass. He's currently nowhere near good enough for a club that has any ambition to win or at least challenge for things. There seems to be this notion with some of our supporters that he's suddenly going to become this top class player, and I have absolutely no idea why.

He's "decent". I just can't see how anyone else can genuinely say he's anything more.

Here's all the players Poch signed and so many flops from abroad.
GLC could still work out well for us?
From abroad hits or ish working backwards Lucas? in 2018 and Son in 2015. Dier was a Pleat inspired buy IIRC.

An argument could be made that Bale was (an underutilized) success.

Edit: TBF, the "media" rumblings seem to suggest that Bale was a Levy (not Mourinho) move.

I read that chart and all I can think about is the years of people saying Levy was failing Poch by not signing fucking Zaha.

Bullet dodged on Berahino Mk. II

I'd take Zaha in a heartbeat.

We lack anyone with his intensity and I suspect that his offensive output might increase if he wasn't the main threat and was surrounded by Kane, Son, Bale, etc.

Also, he qualifies as a HG player.

Astonishingly this guy has only played 151 professional games in his entire career. An average of 22 games a season. Didn’t seem a lot to me for a 25 year old player. Till I saw Winks has crept to a whopping 106 :)

I think he's the quintessential big fish small pond player. I suspect he thinks this, as well, which is why he's content to stay at a shit club on massive wages rather than get found out. A luxury badged Andros Townsend.

I want to try him on the left of midfield or on the left of the front 3.

I'm not totally convinced by him as an 8 or a 10 which is where we're trying to play him but i think he's one to persevere with. Just need to find a role. He may find wide is better for him in this league.
