Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I wouldn't even call him a passenger. He had some good moments on the ball. Scored a goal that was offsides by a toenail. Made the run that opened up the Son goal. We just got dominated out wide.
Quite right, he put the ball in twice. Scored a goal that I don't even think should've been ruled out. Hit the crossbar with a great FK. Held up the ball well as usual. He was good but no striker is going to look great under these circumstances. It's hardly like last week when he just had an uncharacteristically bad game.

The new manager will really have to sell his vision to him, like Poch did to some disillusioned players when he arrived.
I don't see what anyone can say to him to make him genuinely enthusiastic about spending the twilight years of his prime with this squad, especially knowing that his employer lacks the financial clout to efficiently address the problem.

Selling to raise funds is going to become a big issue with some of this dead weight because who's going to want it and for how little?

Objectively, he has to leave, not only to try and win something but to rediscover that motivation again. This place is rancid and stale, and it‘s not going to change any time soon.
We need to make the correct type of appointment as manager this summer. Then Harry needs to knuckle down for next season as he moves into the second half of his six year contract.

He's dejected. He's playing in a side that he wants to be better but isn't up to standard. I get it. He needs to move on because he won't be at his best and we won't get the best out of him. Owners fucked up once again.

I hope I’m wrong but don’t think any manager in the world would change his mind. The rot at the club goes far deeper than the manager, and unless we get oil or Amazon money that could enable a supercharged rebuild, I can’t see Kane all that enthused with having to be part of a rebuild at this stage in his career.

Of course, whether he does get sold is a separate question, given his contract and what Levy would do.

Not his fault the club have regressed since the six year deal was signed, he’s kept his part of the deal and banged in 30+ every season....
Yeah, this is an underappreciated point when people say that he should just suck it up and get on with it. He almost certainly received all kinds of verbal assurances about the club's ongoing ambition before signing. He clearly didn't sign up for this. Of course, his real mistake was not forcing that ambition into writing.

It's worth noting that Spurs fans say the exact same thing as rival fans do when they're mocking him: that he signed the contract and shouldn't have done it if he didn't want to play for Spurs. They see it as schadenfreude but the principle is the same.

They don’t have to change his mind. He has 3 years left on a 6 year contract. Think it was Jermaine Jenas I heard making the point during the week, he was at the club when Modric was agitating for a move to the Chavs. He was told it’s not happening. You’re under contract.

Unless City come in with a bid of 150 million, there’s no way we sell. And Harry has too much respect for the club to act like Bale did when Madrid was after him.

Good post. Yeah, he won't be sold. He'll be kept against his will. But I don't think he's going to be the same player afterwards. I don't think he can be. (See post below from the other day for my explanation of that)

I think this idea that Kane will still be the same player after being refused a move is a bit misguided. Sure, he won't down tools because he's a consummate professional, but a huge part of motivation and desire is subconscious and essentially outside of your control. So without trying to do anything different, I don't think he'll be able to keep putting in 100% effort. There's a degree of almost faking it involved.

Just imagine if you weren't allowed to leave your job. If the pay is great, you feel valued, and you feel like you owe something to your employer, you're probably going to continue trying your best anyway. But are you really going to tell me that you'd still have the raw intrinsic hunger that came naturally and inevitably when you actually wanted to be there?

On a personal level, I'm gutted. He's my favourite player of all time and I want to see him win awards as much as Spurs fans want to win trophies. So you can imagine how much it sucks that it seems like he's going to go another season with nothing. If he misses both the scorer and assist awards, which now seems likely, I'm going to fucking lose it.

seems too obsessed with getting his goals and assist stats up imo. seen him try to hit hollywoods a lot this year when a simple 5 yard pass to a player in a better position can make the pass hes looking to make a lot easier. our midfield and forwards have been poor all year in terms of actually keeping the ball moving and making the correct decisions on the ball though.

will be sad to see him go but if thats whats needed to have the rebuild then so be it. he may not be as much to blame as the rest of the shit over the last 5 years when it comes to not getting any silverware but hes still accountable himself, gone missing in far too many big important games as have they all.

There is absolutely no way we keep kane when we aren't even going to make europa league football. Once a player has made his mind up there isn't really any going back from that. I don't think kane will refuse to play but I don't think we'll get the best out of him, so it's a case of keep him for an extra year and lose money on him or get accept the situation get the best deal we can and move on. This is the only solution I can see right now as I can't see the appointment of a manager like potter getting kane to think fuck me we're going in the right direction here I'm gonna stay.

He's our top scorer and top assister. I'm glad he's obsessed otherwise we'd probably be in the bottom 3 without.

not when plays are breaking down because hes trying to hit almost impossible passes to get the plaudits.

maybe at city he wouldnt be doing that because hes not surrounded by shit i dont know. but ive seen it a lot and its frustrating.

theres no denying over the last 5 years kanes probably only shown up and stuck his chest out in 10% of the really big games weve needed him. the real top strikers are the difference makers in them games

So who are these real top strikers? If Kane hasn't done enough during his time with us to show that he's very much a top striker then I give up. Without him we'd be Crystal Palace.
