Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Joint top goalscorer for England and baring injury will take that record which will not be broken for years. add that to PL goal scorer if he breaks Alan Shearer record. Alan Shearer won the league with Blackburn but is more famous for being leading PL goal scorer.
You make a good point but Shearer won the league with Blackburn and then straight after he got the golden boot for England and finished 3rd in Ballondor. Shearer had a really high peak , which is why he is considered great. And his record with England is then remembered because its a fact that can be added to his peak.

I guarantee you in 20 years time (if we are alive, i hope), we (and even nonspurs fans) will remember Lucas' hattrick more than anything Kane has done, because the peaks are what people remember, not who has the best average or was very steady for many years. Lucas wont be thought of as great but if Kane had scored that hattrick, people would add all the other things that he has done and be in awe. But Kane still has to do that memorable iconic thing. No one cares about Matt Le Tissier other than old southampton fans.

Kane won't be considered one of the best strikers ever outside of England. Lack of impact on big CL/international tournaments will kill that for him. He'll be viewed as one of the best ever PL strikers, just like Shearer.
He has a WC golden boot. Half my partners Inter Milan lot rave about him. Her 18 niece who knows nothing about football at all knows Harry Kane is special. I think you are seriously under estimating the global nature of the world we have created. That he was on with Jimmy Fallon tells its own story.

Because of goals in a group stage vs Panama & Tunisia and a penalty vs Colombia. To be remembered as one of the greatest ever you need more. I'm not saying he'll be forgotten, but in say 10 years when people are discussing the best strikers to ever live, I don't think he'll be up there. Playing for Spurs won't help - Zlatan only won league titles & lacked impact on the international/European stage but he played for the big clubs.

You only have to look at Kane's Ballon d'or placings to see how playing for us & lacking impact on these big European/world tournaments has impacted his standing. This will resonate with fans too, rightly or wrongly.

He will be seen as in the same level as Lewendowski, which is to say virtually nothing.

Great player. Not a decisive player.

Would Harry Kane swap being the all time top scorer for his team (not any team) for a trophy?
I don't think so. He'll be dead proud of himself for what he's done.

Top Scorer for Spurs. Soon to be top scorer for England and hopefully, top scorer in the PL era.

World Cup Golden Boot

Yeah we can say that a million times but it's the most forgettable golden boot ever. He didn't score a goal from open play throughout the entire knockout stages, and ended up getting booed when he went to collect it.

I love Kane but there's a gap on his resume when it comes to influencing the biggest games on the biggest stages, and that will put him down a notch when being compared to the best ever.

Whilst Shearer is more widely known for his goal scoring record, without winning the league he would have been slaughtered by fans and the press. Kane needs to win trophies (preferably big ones) to avoid being mocked.

Not really. I never see anything anywhere about shearer winning the league. I know it, because I've been watching the premier league since it started, but he isn't referred to a "premier league winner", he's almost always "record premier league goal scorer".
Although he would love a PL winners medal, it is arguably more difficult to be PL record goalscorer than win the league as only one person can ever have that record. Difference is you cannot keep it forever.
Interesting point made elsewhere which would Kane rather have, a PL winners medal or be PL record goalscorer?
